Ian Bell will play no part in Warwickshire’s County Championship campaign for the first time since 2000, after being ruled out for the remainder of the 2019 season due to a tendon issue in his left knee.Bell, who had been on the comeback from a foot injury sustained during the Pakistan Super League in February, reported the knee concern following Warwickshire’s Second XI Championship game with Lancashire.”It’s extremely frustrating for us, and for Ian, that another injury has happened when he was extremely close to a First Team return,” said Paul Farbrace, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC.”Over the last couple of weeks our medical team have been regularly assessing the condition of his left knee, and we have also been supported by sports injury specialists in London. However, the outcome of this has confirmed that Ian will need to have several injections, which rules him out of action for six to eight weeks and effectively ends his season.”He will now have a three-week period of minimal activity before working closely with our medical and strength and conditioning teams to prepare him for the pre-season programme in 2020.”The injury means that Bell, 37, will be absent from Warwickshire’s first-class statistics for the 2019 season, the first time in nearly 20 years that he has failed to play at least one first-class game. He made his debut for the club as a 17-year-old in 1999.”Whilst we are naturally disappointed to lose a player of Ian’s immense talent, one of the positives of 2019 has been the way in which our young, homegrown players have fought in recent weeks,” added Farbrace.”They will continue to be given the opportunity to develop and thrive as we continue our Vitality Blast campaign and fight to retain our place in Division One of the Specsavers County Championship.”

وعن إدواردو كامافينجا وتشواميني، أفاد: “كامافينجا بخير، لقد عانى من إصابة استمرت 40 يومًا، لقد كانت مباراة صعبة للغاية، ولم تكن مثالية بالنسبة له”.

وأكد: “سيكون قادرا على اللعب يوم الاربعاء، وقد لعب تشواميني بشكل جيد للغاية”.

With the transfer window closed, clubs must turn to the free agent market if they want to make further additions throughout the remainder of the season. We've already seen the likes of Derby County take full advantage of that to sign former Stoke City man Dwight Gayle and now we could see Sheffield Wednesday or Bolton Wanderers go down a similar route.

Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday eye free agent

The two clubs are in contrasting positions, of course, with Bolton competing for an automatic promotion spot in League One, sitting level on points with second-place Derby and only behind on goal difference. Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, are fighting to survive in the Championship and sit four points adrift of safety in England's second tier.

Yet, even though both are in such different circumstances, they remain level in the race to seal a deal that could go on to decide their fortunes, be that securing promotion or avoiding relegation. According to TeamTalk, Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton are eyeing moves to sign Ravel Morrison, who is once again a free agent following his release from DC United – the third club to release the former Manchester United youngster in his career.

Now 31-years-old, it really could be last chance saloon for Morrison, who must get his next move right. With Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday interested alongside Peterborough United, the midfielder has a crucial decision to make. Of course, if Morrison does complete a move to Bolton, then he will be directly competing against former club Derby in the race for promotion.

Mumbai have reappointed Vinayak Samant as their coach in controversial circumstances just before the start of the upcoming domestic season. Samant was retained after former Mumbai coach Sulakshan Kulkarni, who served them from 2011 to 2014, turned the offer down following disagreements with the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) ad-hoc committee, primarily over the remuneration offered to him.Kulkarni claims that when he was initially interviewed in May for the post by Dilip Vengsarkar, chairman of the MCA’s Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), he was offered a remuneration of INR 24 lakh for one year, from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020, as posted on the MCA website. However, Kulkarni says, the MCA delayed his appointment and sent him a contract in mid-August with an offer of INR 14 lakh, valid from September 2019 to March 2020, which he turned down.”I told them I won’t accept the contract like this if you reduce the amount from 24 to 14 lakh, there’s no chance” Kulkarni told ESPNcricinfo. “It’s not my mistake because I was ready to take up the job on 1st June. The delay was from their side.”Kulkarni was also unhappy that the MCA made this and other changes in the contract without consulting the CIC. Karsan Ghavri, a member of the CIC, said this was unacceptable.”The ad-hoc committee [of the MCA] cannot overrule a decision which has already been made by the CIC,” Ghavri told . “They should have had a meeting with the CIC to discuss the issue [after Kulkarni did not agree to MCA’s contract terms]. If this is how MCA is going to function by taking their own cricketing decisions, then I don’t wish to be on the CIC. I am going to resign in a couple of days.”We [CIC] held several meetings, each lasting for nearly five hours, to interview coaches and support staff for the junior and senior teams. [By appointing Samant] they have not just treated CIC badly, but also the coaches and support staff.”Kulkarni said there were more changes in the contract he was eventually offered, which didn’t make sense to him.”When I was the Mumbai coach in 2011, the daily match allowance was INR 10,000,” he said. “Now, nearly 10 years later, they are offering only INR 5,000 per day. The amount should have actually gone up, there is no common sense in this.”According to Kulkarni, the MCA also reduced the number of leaves offered from 60 to 15 per year and changed “many other” terms and conditions which he “was not ready for”. Kulkarni said he turned the offer down on August 20.Last week, the MCA then went back to Samant, who had also applied for the post in May as he had been appointed only for the 2018-19 season last year. In that season, he helped Mumbai lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy but they then went downhill and failed to qualify for the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals, and couldn’t make the final in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.”Among the main drawbacks last season was that we didn’t have many pace bowlers and established spinners,” Samant told ESPNcricinfo. “We were banking on only a couple of bowlers out of whom Tushar Deshpande was unfit in the second match. To win matches outright, you need to take 20 wickets. And if you don’t have the bowlers to pick up those wickets, then you’re going to suffer. Then that adds further pressure to the batting which was not up to the mark.”Samant started working with the team in Mumbai on Tuesday and will travel with them to Nagpur on September 4 with a 15-man squad for the Bapuna Cup, a pre-season tournament for which they are trying several fringe players. They have named Suryakumar Yadav captain for the tournament as they want to groom him as a leader for whenever regular captain Shreyas Iyer is unavailable because of national duty. Mumbai are also going to try out 19-year-old Arjun Tendulkar, a left-arm quick, before the domestic season begins.”We want to try him and see how effective he is. I saw Arjun at the MPL (Mumbai Premier League), he bowls very well. He bowls quick and is very accurate,” Samant said.”We’re looking to make Surya the captain in Shreyas’ absence. He’s a very good captain. Surya has had some issues in the past but we’re backing him again and grooming him for captaincy.”

Newcastle United have had a major fall from grace this season when compared to the triumphs of their 2022/23 campaign.

Last season, the Magpies managed to achieve Champions League qualification for the first time since the 2003/04 season.

Eddie Howe managing to achieve this feat with Newcastle was nothing short of legendary and cemented his legacy within the club's history.

Granted, the PIF takeover assisted the former Bournemouth manager in achieving a top-four finish, however, if it wasn't for his tactical choices and decision-making, it's highly unlikely that they would've managed to achieve as much as they have done.

Much like many of their fellow Premier League counterparts, the Tyneside-based club have gone through their own injury crisis this season.

Players such as Nick Pope, Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes have all been sidelined for extended periods and left Howe with something of a headache in regard to his team selection.

That said, there has still been a lack of action for Tino Livramento, and it arguably showed during the club's 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday evening.

Standing in for Dan Burn, the former Southampton gem hardly covered himself in glory.

Tino Livarmento's game in numbers

Livramento joined the Magpies for a fee in the region of £40m at the start of the 2023/24 season but even despite the ongoing injury crisis on the Toon, he's still not cemented a regular spot in the side, starting on just seven times in the league.

Presented with a rare chance to prove himself in Saturday's 4-1 loss to Arsenal, he was not at the races in what was the Magpies' joint-highest defeat of the season, alongside their 4-1 loss to Tottenham back in December.

Livramento's performance certainly left a lot to desire and was arguably one of the defenders' worst outings of the season. It was so bad that Shields Gazette only gave the youngster a match rating of 4/10.

As per Sofascore, the 21-year-old only played a total of 73 minutes and still managed to lose 100% of the duels he attempted. In addition to this, he only managed two more touches than goalkeeper Loris Karius and managed to lose possession a total of four times.

William Saliba of Arsenal, on the other hand, played the full 90 minutes and managed to win 50% of his duels and lost possession the same number of times as the youngster.

This puts into perspective that, despite playing less time than the France international, he still had a much worse defensive performance.

Livramento wasn't the only player who had a below-par performance against the Gunners at the weekend though.

Sven Botman's performance in numbers

6 foot 3 anchor, Sven Botman arguably had a worse game than Livaremento did, with the Shields Gazette giving the Netherlands international a 3/10 rating for his performance against the London-based club.

Not only did he score an own goal within the first 20 minutes of the game, but, he was also on the pitch until the 73rd minute but managed to come out with poorer statistics than those of Livramento's.

Courtesy of Sofascore, the 24-year-old lost possession of the ball a total of ten times, and made a further error which led to another one of Arsenal's goals away from putting the ball in his own net. The defender did, however, manage to win 3/4 of the duels he attempted.

In order for Newcastle to qualify for any sort of European competition this season, they will really have to step their game up.

The Magpies currently sit in mid-table and find themselves 15 points away from the top four spots which is likely much farther away from where they expected to be this season.

With some players now returning from injury, Howe will be hoping that his team can change their fortunes and start climbing back up England's top flight.
