Liverpool fans fume at Wijnaldum display vs Napoli

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to their defeat in Naples, and they’re absolutely crucifying the performance of Georginio Wijnaldum.

Liverpool were absolutely shocking against Napoli on Wednesday night, and if truth be told the Reds were lucky it was only 1-0.

Jürgen Klopp’s side failed to register a single shot on target, and the midfield was completely outclassed and outfought.

Wijnaldum in particularly had a horrid game, as the Dutchman completed just 37 passes, with only five of those passes going forwards.

Five forward passes in 90 minutes is absolutely shocking, and the 27-year-old quite simply went missing in the second half.

While the entire midfield was poor, Wijnaldum’s performance is especially disappointing given how well he started the season.

The Reds have the chance to bounce back immediately against Manchester City on Sunday, and fans are insistent that Wijnaldum should only play if he is deployed deeper as a number six.

Fans slam Tottenham defender Davies’ poor performance for Wales

[ad_pod ]

The international break has led to a lull for Premier League fans but has at least provided the opportunity to track the performances of players on duty for their nations.

Tottenham have a number of members of their squad currently away for the international break and that includes Wales full-back Ben Davies, who has struggled so far this season.

Davies needs to improve his form if he is to earn retain his spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s side ahead of Danny Rose, but fans were left far from impressed with his performance on the international stage, as Wales were easily swept aside by Spain in a friendly in Cardiff.

The full-back played 62 minutes in a 4-1 defeat against Luis Enrique’s men and fans on social media were quick to express their frustrations in the performance of the 25-year-old, who boasts 42 caps for his nation.

We have gathered some of the best reactions to Davies’ display below.

If Pellegrini doesn’t change, Javier Hernandez will surely leave West Ham

West Ham have had a mixed campaign so far, with Mauricio Pellegrini yet to convince fans with his suitability for the post. He’s a talented manager, but he needs to pick up a few more results in order to ensure that he remains in London long-term.

It’s been a tough spell for some West Ham players under his managership, and that’s particularly true of Javier Hernandez. The Mexican has started just one league game so far this term, and if that doesn’t change over the coming weeks, surely it’s time for him to start thinking about a potential departure…

After all, the Mexican has found life tough back in England. He wasn’t a regular last season, and he’s started the season in similar fashion this term. With Marco Arnautavic clearly preferred, he’s struggled to get minutes in the first team, and that’s just not good enough.

For a player that was so crucial for Bayer Leverkusen, it’s fair to say that his time in England just hasn’t worked out, and that’s a real shame.

At 30-years-old, he’s at an age in which regular game time is needed. He’d certainly get that at other clubs, especially abroad, as he’s proven over the years that he’s more than good enough to get goals for practically any side. With electric pace, technical quality and consistency in front of goal, he’d be just the ticket for any number of other teams.

Pellegrini, though, just doesn’t seem to fancy him, and that looks unlikely to change judging by the first couple of months of the season.

Middlesbrough fans split over Rudy Gestede

[ad_pod ]

Middlesbrough were held to a goalless draw by Rotherham United in the Championship on Tuesday night.

It was a disappointing result for Boro, but Tony Pulis’ team are still going along very nicely in the second tier this season as they look to secure a return to the Premier League.

Rudy Gestede has recently returned from injury to boost the Boro squad, but the centre-forward is still looking for his first goal of the campaign.

The 30-year-old – valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt – played the final 18 minutes of the clash with Rotherham, replacing Britt Assombalonga at the Riverside Stadium.

Gestede has divided opinion with the Boro fans since making the move to the Riverside, and that still seems to be the case.

Indeed, there were mixed responses to the striker’s tweet following the goalless draw with Rotherham on Tuesday night.

Leeds fans fume as Bielsa reveals plans for Dallas

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting to Marcelo Bielsa’s pre-Wigan press conference, as the boss said Stuart Dallas will start at right-back.

Leeds have had a horrid time with injuries this season, particularly in defence.

Barry Douglas is set to return to face Wigan this weekend, but both Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling are out.

Ayling is expected to miss around two months with a knee injury he suffered during last weekend’s clash with Nottingham Forest, and the boss seems content to use Dallas in his place.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”326185″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Fixture in Focus Arsenal vs Liverpool”]

“He (Dallas) will play as a full back,” Bielsa said on Friday.“He has a very important contribution to the offensive play, a very good first pass. He is a dynamic player and he adapts very well to the style of play.”

While Dallas’ versatility is certainly impressive, fans have hated his recent performances, as he seems completely lost defensively.

The 27 year-old has racked up over 100 Championship appearances at Elland Road, but fans are fuming at the decision to keep faith with him, and you can view some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Tottenham fans praise Juan Foyth for his eventful Premier League debut display

Tottenham managed to quell a Wolves comeback on Saturday evening and take all three points from Molineux with a 3-2 win, and Spurs fans saw the positives from Juan Foyth’s performance despite the 20-year-old giving away two penalties.

Spurs started the game brilliantly and took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from the much maligned Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura, before Harry Kane looked to have made the result comfortable with his first league goal in five weeks.

However, Foyth initially fouled striker Raul Jimenez in the box and Ruben Neves dispatched the penalty with just over 20 minutes remaining. Wolves had their tails up and were given another chance from the spot when Foyth this time pushed defender Jonny, allowing Jiminez to convert.

The young Argentine centre-back was making his Premier League debut after being limited to cup games since his summer 2017 move from Estudiantes, but Spurs fans were still impressed with his performance despite the mistakes. Check out some of the best reaction from Twitter below.

Newcastle must break transfer record for sensational Haller

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle are reportedly eyeing a January move for Sebastien Haller, and the 24-year-old could be everything Salomon Rondon was supposed to be and so much more.

What’s the story?

According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Eintracht Frankfurt want up to €30million (£26m) for Haller.

Newcastle and Tottenham are the two teams mentioned in the report, and the Northern Echo recently claimed Haller is Rafael Benitez’s number one January target.

While fans may not be too optimistic about the chances Mike Ashley splashing out £26m on a new signing, the Magpies would distance themselves from the relegation scrap if they can get the deal done.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”327140″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Leicester Trump Man City Chelsea & Liverpool”]

Goalscoring machine

Haller was scoring goals for fun between 2015 and 2017, but no one really noticed because it was in the Eredivisie. He scored 45 times in 73 league appearances for Utrecht, but is now proving he can perform in one of Europe’s “big five” leagues as well.

Since moving to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2017, he has gone from strength to strength, and his form this season is nothing short of remarkable.

The 6ft 3in Frenchman has scored nine goals and provided seven assists already this season, which means he has contributed to more than twice as many goals as the Magpies have scored in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old also scored 13 times in 20 appearances for the French Under-21 side, though he is yet to earn a senior cap.

It’s not hard to see why Benitez wants Haller, as he will both score goals and make chances for a Newcastle side that is crying out for a creative spark.

He is winning an incredible 5.3 aerial duels per game this season, while also making 1.4 key passes per game and completing 0.9 dribbles per game.

To put those numbers in perspective, Rondon averages 3.5 aerial wins, 0.2 key passes and 0.3 successful dribbles.

If Ashley is serious about helping Benitez pull the club away from the relegation zone, then breaking the club transfer record for Haller is an absolute no-brainer.

So, Newcastle fans, do you think Haller is a realistic target? Could he get the goals flowing on Tyneside? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

The Chalkboard: Ryan Kent faces a huge battle to reclaim spot in Rangers starting XI

[ad_pod ]

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard confirmed after the weekend rout against Motherwell that he is unsure when the injured Ryan Kent will return, but the 22-year-old loanee faces a huge battle to reclaim his spot in the starting XI.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the winger joined the Scottish Premiership giants on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool during the summer and quickly made a big impression at Ibrox.

The tricky wide man scored three goals and provided a further two assists in 22 appearances in all competitions before suffering a hamstring issue that saw him miss the 4-3 Europa League defeat against Spartak Moscow and the 7-1 thrashing of Motherwell.

Attacking players Eros Grezda, Glenn Middleton and Daniel Candeias have all taken advantage of their opportunities in recent weeks, and Kent has surely gone from being a regular to having to prove himself again on his return.

Can he dislodge them?

If Gerrard continues to use a 4-1-4-1 system then it means that two places are up for grabs between Kent, Candeias, Middleton and Grezda, and given the latter trio all have better stats than the Reds loanee compared to how many minutes each has played, he still has plenty to do to prove himself.

Just a few weeks ago it seemed as though it would be unthinkable to not have the 22-year-old in the starting XI, but his injury and the form of his attacking teammates may have ultimately turned his Rangers career upside down, and he now has it all to prove again if he does want to end up securing a permanent transfer to Ibrox.

Opinion: Olivier Giroud is the goal-scoring poacher Wolves need

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been one of the most exciting teams to watch so far this season, even if a lack of goals hints at a vastly different perspective.

Nuno Espirito Santo has demonstrated his credentials to thrive at this level by enabling his side to claim points against champions Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

The trio of results suggest that Wolves deserve their place at this level, but one cannot help the feeling that they could even have bettered those results with the presence of a clinical goal scorer.

The 1-1 draw with Arsenal was particularly frustrating, and it was a result which served to illuminate their need to sign another attacking player in January.

Liverpool’s Divock Origi has been touted as a potential option in the British media, but Nuno would be wise to consider a vastly more experienced talent, Olivier Giroud.

The Chelsea striker has a whopping total of 72 Premier League goals to his name from 202 appearances, and his experience at this level makes him something of a veteran.

Add in the fact that he has provided 32 assists in England’s top flight and it’s fair to say Giroud has tangible evidence to substantiate his glowing reputation.

What Giroud lacks in pace he more than makes up for in awareness, positioning and composure, and there’s no doubt that those qualities would add a telling dimension to Wolves’ attack.

Giroud recently claimed (as per Mirror) that he is happy at Chelsea despite his lack of first-team opportunities this season, but the promise of regular football may prove too strong for him to turn down if his situation remains the same come January.

Raul Jimenez has showcased a sound level of technical quality and an instinctive tendency to link up with the players around him this season, which have provided Wolves with a focal point from which to build their attacks, but their lack of alternative to the Portugal international is a huge problem for the club.

With Wolves’ riches to consider, there’s no doubt that they have the financial power to sanction a short-term loan deal for Giroud in January – the hard part will be convincing the World Cup winner to swap London for the West Midlands.

Opinion: Federico Fernandez is doing something to vindicate Mike Ashley’s prudent approach to the transfer market

Newcastle United recorded their third straight league victory on Monday evening to pull clear of the relegation zone.

It is fixtures between fellow relegation candidates which so often determine the dynamics of a relegation battle. To label Newcastle’s clash with Burnley as a relegation six-pointer would be an over exaggeration at this stage in the season, but it was a mentally priceless win in the context of the battle to beat the drop.

Rafa Benitez opted to start with a new-look formation, compromising of a back-three and two wing-backs either side, and his side reaped the rewards from a relatively unfamiliar system.

At the heart of his defensive unit were three of Newcastle’s standout performers: Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez.

The latter, who Newcastle signed for £6 million in the summer, was awarded a 9/10 rating by The Chronicle, before he was labelled as ‘bargain of the season’.

On the evidence of his latest colossal performance at the back, one of many this season, it’s difficult to build a case which contradicts that glowing verdict.

Relegated clubs are often a breeding ground for bargain signings, as Liverpool have discovered with their swoop for Xherdan Shaqiri, and Newcastle are thoroughly enjoying the performances of their own, albeit comparably low key, summer acquisition.

Fernandez has defended with a level of authority which peculiarly eluded him at Swansea. The Argentine is commanding in the air, willing to put his body on the line to defend Martin Dubravka’s goal, and he’s not bad with the ball at his feet either.

Mike Ashley’s transfer policy is a tentative subject to say the least on Tyneside, but there is no doubt that, very occasionally, there are positives to be drawn from his tight-fisted approach – and Fernandez’s opening to his career with the club serves to vindicate that notion.

With Florian Lejeune’s lengthy lay-off to consider Newcastle were forced to invest in defensive talent in the summer within the constraints of a limited budget, and the decision to sign Fernandez is rapidly beginning to prove that it is possible to sign Premier League quality at a modest price.
