The serious nature of the illnessforced Foster to buy an extra airline ticket, circumventing a time consumingstopover in Colombo.Contrary to a BCCSL media release, which states that Foster "requested theBCCSL to meet the cost of upgrading him to Business Class," Foster claimsthat: "I was not expecting them to pay for the upgrade. I asked them tooffset the cost of my upgrade against my unused business class, or consideroffsetting it against any future coaching trips to Sri Lanka."Their decision not to assist him – despite a history of honourary assistanceto the BCCSL, including two biomechanical analyses of Muttiah Muralitharan’saction in 1995 and 1999 that helped save the off-spinners career – forcedhim to resign: "They said no, so I could only believe that I was not goingto be required for any further bowling work. Therefore I didn’t believe thatI had any other alternative than to sever my links with the board andresign.""I was profoundly disappointed. To have it announced in Colombo during thecourse of a Test match was distracting – the players and management teamhave more important things to worry about than leaks from the board inColombo. And making it look that I was resigning because of a financialdisagreement was misleading."Foster first starting working for the BCCSL in 1995 when he helped clearMuralitharan’s action with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Sincethen he has been involved in the BCCSL’s Fast Bowling Unit. Most recently,he helped Dilhara Fernando remodel his action after sustaining a stressfracture in his back. During this tour he had to take unpaid holiday leaveto heed the BCCSL’s request for assistance.Although currently upset, as are members of the team, he stopped short ofruling out any further association with Sri Lankan cricket: "I would hopethere could some rapprochement with the board. If I have got the wrongmessage from the board, then I will certainly talk to them about futurecoaching assistance.".

A Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire partnership at Manchester United could be similar to Gary Pallister and Steve Bruce’s, claims former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

United are being heavily linked with £63m-rated Varane, with recent reports suggesting that the club and player are in talks over personal terms.

Varane has just one year remaining on his Real Madrid contract, so a move to an outfit like United this summer certainly does look possible.

And if they do manage to pull it off, Palmer believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could end up recreating one of United’s legendary centre-back pairings.

When asked if Varane could be the perfect partner for the current Red Devils captain Maguire, the former Leeds United player told TT.

“Absolutely. I remember when he first burst on the scene for Real Madrid. I think he’s an outstanding football player. 

“It’d be a bit like Pallister and Bruce. Bruce wasn’t the quickest, but Pallister was unbelievably quick for a big man. They had the right balance within the side.”

Given his attributes like his pace and experience playing at the top, Varane could indeed be the ideal central defender to line up alongside Maguire.

With PSG also said to be in the race to sign the 28-year-old France international, though, there still looks like there is some work for United to do.

انتقد أسطورة جنوب إفريقيا، دكتور خومالو، المسؤولين عن الكرة في بلده بسبب الاعتماد على مدربين غير وطنيين لقيادة منتخب الأولاد في السنوات الأخيرة رغم خبرات مواطنيه الطويلة.

ويدرب منتخب جنوب إفريقيا في الوقت الحالي المدير الفني البلجيكي هوجو بروس، منذ العام الماضي ولكنه فشل مع الأولاد في الوصول حتى إلى المرحلة النهائية من تصفيات كأس العالم 2022.

وتحدث خومالو عن وجهة نظره في تصريحات لشبكة “iDiskiTimes” الجنوب إفريقية، وقال: “لدينا مدربين وطنيين رائعين، يمتلكون أفكار بالملايين، يحتاج منتخبنا إلى أبنائه”.

وأضاف: “لقد حصل العديد من مدربينا على جوائز وألقاب، أتذكر أول مدرب يتأهل بنا إلى دورة الألعاب الأولمبية تحت 23 عامًا، إبراهيم ماشابا”.

وتابع: “تذكروا كليف باركر 1996، أخذنا إلى أين؟ إلى كأس العالم، جومو سونو في 2002، تروت مولوتو، وماذا فعلنا بعد ذلك، لقد قمعوا بيتسو موسيماني فقط لأننا اعتقدنا أنه كان فاشلًا”.

وأضاف: “لقد استقرت السنغال على إعطاء تدريب منتخبها لأحد أبنائها وهو أليو سيسيه، واليوم هو بطل قارة إفريقيا، لماذا لا نؤمن بأنفسنا؟ هل هو بسبب القيادة السيئة؟ يجب أن يكون هناك تغيير في الأفكار، هذا بلد الأبطال، لا يمكننا التحدث عن الماضي فقط وأساطيرنا مثل مارك فيش، لوكاس راديبي ودكتور خومالو كل هذا كان منذ 26 عامًا ولم يحدث أي شيء بعد ذلك”.

ويبدو أن خومالو يلمح إلى إعطاء فرصة أخرى إلى بيتسو موسيماني، لقيادة منتخب جنوب إفريقيا رغم تجديد عقده مع الأهلي حتى 2024.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إسبانية، أن نادي برشلونة سيحاول مرة أخرى التعاقد مع الدولي الفرنسي جوليس كوندي من إشبيلية الإسباني في الصيف.

كوندي هو قلب دفاع تحبه إدارة برشلونة الرياضية كثيرًا. وكان قريبًا للبلوجرانا في الصيف، ولكن لم يرغب النادي الأندلسي في البيع، وفي هذا الوقت يحتاجون إلى ذلك.

صحيفة “سبورت” الإسبانية، أكدت أن إدارة برشلونة تسعى لتكرار الأمر، وتقديم عرض للفريق الأندلسي، حيث عرضت على إشبيلية الصيف الماضي ما يصل إلى ثلاثة لاعبين  ووضعت أسماء ديست ومينغيزا وترينكاو على الطاولة.

مونشي المدير الرياضي لنادي إشبيلية، لم يرغب في خسارة كوندي. لم يكن إشبيلية بحاجة إلى البيع وأرسل تشيلسي، الذي كان مهتمًا أيضًا بالفرنسي 90 مليون يورو لحسم الصفقة، لكن النادي رفض، مثلما أبلغ برشلونة بأنه يحتاج إلى 25 مليون يورو للأسماء الثلاثة السابق ذكرها.

وبالتالي، استمر اللاعب في إشبيلية ولم يرحل، وقضى الموسم بالكامل في ملعب رامون سانشيز بيزخوان.

الوضع الآن تغيّر. وما كان يستحقه اللاعب قبل عام لم يعد يستحق ذلك. كما أن إشبيلية لديه مشاكل كبيرة في ميزانيته، والتي تتجاوز 40 مليون يورو، بسبب إقصائهم من دور المجموعات بدوري الأبطال.

كان الأندلسيون قد خصصوا دخلًا في الميزانية للوصول إلى ربع النهائي، بالإضافة إلى ذلك، حقيقة الإقصاء من دور الـ16 من الدوري الأوروبي لم تساعدهم، لذلك يحتاج إشبيلية الذي رفض في يناير عرضًا من نيوكاسل لـ دييجو كارلوس أيضًا، إلى بيع لاعب واحد مهم على الأقل.

ولكن تجدر الإشارة إلى أن  إشبيلية بحاجة إلى المال وليس تبادل اللاعبين، صحيح أن مونشي توصل إلى الاعتقاد بأن فريقه يمكنه القيام بعمل جيد لاستعادة لينجليت معتقدًا أن اللاعب الفرنسي يمكن أن يعود إلى أفضل مستوياته في رامون سانشيز بيزخوان، كذلك سيرجينو ديست، ولكن الأهم الآن هو المال وليس تبادل اللاعبين.

برشلونة يقترب من كريستنسن مدافع تشيلسي وقد توصل لاتفاق إلى ضمه بالفعل من البلوز، ولديه أروخو وإريك جارسيا وبيكيه، مما يجعل الحاجة لـ كوندي ليست كما كانت الصيف الماضي.

O zagueiro Réver será reavaliado pelo departamento médico do Flamengo nesta segunda-feira, na reapresentação do elenco, no Ninho do Urubu. O defensor foi substituído no segundo tempo do clássico contra o Vasco porque sentiu dores na coxa direita.

Réver deu lugar ao jovem Léo Duarte, de 20 anos.Donatti viajou com o Flamengo para Brasília, mas não ficou no banco de reservas por causa de uma gastroenterite, de acordo com o clube.
