Group ASui Southern Gas Corporation collapsed to a massive innings defeat against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines in Sheikhpura. Misbah-ul-Haq failed to add to his overnight score of 247, but his team had stamped its authority over the match as a win looked imminent at the end of the second day. SNGPL declared on 494 for 6 – a lead of 361 – and bowled out SSGC for a paltry 160, crushing any hopes they may have had of making the opposition bat again. SSGC struggled from the outset, losing their first wicket for no score, and although Asif Zakir and Imran Abbas added 52 for the second wicket, there was little show of support from the rest. Only wicketkeeper Ahmed Zeeshan resisted with 52, but legspinner Yasir Shah – 3 for 63 – and fast bowler Imran Ali, who took 2 for 44, hastened the slide to conclude a resounding win for SNGPL.Salman Butt’s aggressive 202, and Mohammad Talha’s four-wicket burst put National Bank of Pakistan in a commanding position against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited at the Gaddafi Stadium. Butt consolidated his team’s dominance, scoring at a strike rate of almost 90 to put the match completely out of ZTBL’s reach as NBP declared on 358 for 6, setting an improbable target of 437. ZTBL’s task was made even more difficult as fast bowler Mohammad Talha had them reeling at 12 for 3. Wahab Riaz then dismissed Aamer Bashir with the score on 49 before Talha broke a 38-run fourth-wicket partnership between Umar Javed – who remained unbeaten on 29 – and wicketkeeper Shakeel Ansar, leaving ZTBL at 87 for 5 and staring at a massive defeat.Yasir Hussain, the offspinner, took 7 for 91 to help Pakistan Customs bowl out Lahore Shalimar for 360, limiting their first innings lead to 35. Mohammad Hussain then made an important, unbeaten half-century to take Pakistan Customs to 167 for 3 at stumps – a lead of 132 – and provide them a slight advantage at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. Overnight batsmen Abid Ali, who made 114, and Raza Ali Dar added 116 for the fourth wicket to take Lahore Shalimar to a comfortable position at 288 for 3. But the Pakistan Customs bowlers then triggered a collapse, taking the remaining seven wickets for just 52 runs as the batsmen who followed failed to resist. In their second innings, Pakistan Customs lost each of the three wickets after their batsmen had got starts, but Hussain and Zahoor Elahi added an unbeaten 65 for the fourth wicket, scoring at a healthy rate, to hand their team the edge.Sohail Tanvir took 7 for 120 – and 15 wickets in the match – to set up what should be a comfortable win for Khan Research Laboratories against Pakistan International Airlines in Mirpur. A 72-run third-wicket partnership between Khurram Manzoor and Fahad Iqbal had helped PIA recover to 118 for 3. However, frequent breakthroughs from Tanvir and fast bowler Yasir Ali pegged them back, and although the last two wickets added 56 to take them to 248, a target of 127 has proved a touch too little to seriously test the KRL batsmen. KRL ended the day on 73 for 2 – just 54 runs short of victory – after openers Saeed Anwar jnr and Bazid Khan gave them a brisk start.Water and Power Development Authority’s hopes rest entirely on Bilal Khilji – unbeaten on 41 – as they struggled to 99 for 7 against Karachi Whites in pursuit of 170 for victory at the National Stadium. Karachi Whites recovered to 262 after finding themselves in a much precarious situation at 102 for 5. Fast bowler Azharullah took 4 for 83 to give his team a shot at chasing a much lower target but a lower-order resistance, led by Karachi Whites’ captain Khalid Latif, who made 81, provided his team a fighting chance of pulling off an unlikely win. The last three Karachi Whites wickets yielded 114 runs that could prove decisive in the outcome. In response, the WAPDA batsmen faltered from the outset, collapsing to the pace of Tanvir Ahmed and Malik Aftab – who took three wickets each – to find themselves reeling at 73 for 7. Khilji held firm amid wickets falling at the other end, and took his team to win 71 runs of the target with Azharullah batting on 11.Group BNoor-ul-Amin and Akmal Khan – both spinners – took seven wickets between them to help Abbottabad defeat Quetta comprehensively by ten wickets in Islamabad. Quetta began the third day 84 runs adrift of Abbottabad’s first innings lead of 91, and did well at the start as openers Shahzad Tareen and Taimur Ali added 66. Their partnership marked the only highlight for Quetta as they were bowled out for 173, with Noor-ul-Amin following up his impressive display in the first innings with 4 for 56 in the second. The highest subsequent stand was worth just 22 as Akmal Khan ably supported his fellow spinner, capturing three middle-order wickets. Set a target of 83, the Abbottabad openers Hammad Ali and Fahad Khan raced to a victory, taking just ten overs to complete the job.Three wickets within a space of 30 runs put Islamabad on top against Hyderabad, who were set a daunting target of 418 at the Niaz Stadium. Islamabad were 113 for 2 overnight – after gaining a lead of 85 in the first innings – and consolidated their dominant position despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Fast bowler Lal Kumar took 4 for 83, and was well supported by offspinner Shoaib Laghari – who took 3 for 77 – as Hyderabad limited the opposition to 206 for 7 at one stage. But an unbeaten eighth-wicket stand of 123 between Rauf Akbar, who top-scored with 77, and half-centurion Imad Wasim put the game firmly in Islamabad’s grasp. Hyderabad faltered in their run-chase, losing opener Aqeel Anjum for 43, before Saad Altaf took two wickets to leave them staring at a possible defeat.Centuries from Usman Tariq and Naved Yasin put Multan firmly in control against Peshwar at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The two were involved in a mammoth 283-run partnership for the fourth wicket, and although their team lost five wickets for 73 runs, the lower-order batted well with wicketkeeper Gulraiz Sadaf to stretch their team’s lead to 110. Afaq Ahmed was Peshawar’s top performer with 3 for 92. However, his team struggled in the second innings, losing opener Israrullah, caught off Ansar Javed, with the score on 2, and Mohammad Idress, bowled by Abdur Rauf, on 29. Naved Khan made an unbeaten 20, and with his team still 69 runs short of overhauling the lead, Peshwar’s hopes for a recovery will rest on him.At the Khan Research Laboratory Ground, Rawalpindi ended a tough, yet satisfactory day against Karachi Blues, limiting them to 297 for 6 after enforcing the follow-on. Karachi Blues, who began 155 short, were given an excellent start by openers Atif Ali and Shahzaib Hasan, who top-scored with 95. However, frequent breakthroughs following their separation undermined their 129-run stand as the middle-order batsmen, with the exception of Sheharyar Ghani who made 74, failed to build on starts. Fast bowlers Mohammad Rameez and Mohammad Ayaz took two wickets each to prevent any threatening partnership from taking root and helping their team retain the advantage with Karachi Blues 142 ahead and six down.A 93-run sixth-wicket stand between Ayaz Tassawar, who top-scored with 93, and Nadeem Javed, coupled with useful contributions from the lower order, helped Sialkot seize the initiative against Lahore Ravi at the Jinnah Stadium. The day began with both teams on an even keel but Tassawar’s innings, and a further 115 runs for the last four Sialkot wickets, including an unbeaten 41 by wicketkeeper Kaleem Ahmed, helped their team gain a crucial 98-run first innings lead. Sohail Ahmed, who bowls left-arm spin, starred with the ball, taking 4 for 67. In their second innings, Lahore Ravi started well with openers Sohail and Babar Manzoor adding 52, but a timely the latter’s timely wicket at the death provided a satisfying end to the day for Sialkot.

Late wickets give West the edge

West Zone capped a good day in the field, first boosted to 459 by Ajinkya Rahane’s 165 and stubborn stands by the lower order and then snapping three wickets before stumps

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
How they were outWest Zone capped a good day in the field, first boosted to 459 by Ajinkya Rahane’s 165 and stubborn stands by the lower order and then snapping four wickets before stumps.West were in need of consolidation after losing two late wickets on the opening day and they recovered well with the lower middle order rallying around Rahane. At lunch, West were well placed at 424 for 7, adding 121 in the morning session for the loss of two wickets. They added another 35 in the second session, led by Kedar Jadhav’s 47.The last four wickets added 99, much to the frustration of South’s bowlers. Rahane and Siddharth Trivedi, the overnight batsmen, resisted with a stand of 57 for the sixth wicket. Rahane picked Sreesanth for boundaries early in the session before Trivedi opened up against the spinners. He was eventually trapped lbw to a straighter delivery by Shadab Jakati. Rahane piled on the runs before he was trapped on the back foot by Ashwin for 165.The spinners failed to contain the lower order as Jadhav gave them the charge. Sreesanth struck just four balls after lunch, accounting for Rajesh Pawar off a short delivery to leave West at 424 for 8. Ramesh Powar hung around with Jadhav for 11 overs before he was run out. Jakati initially appealed for an lbw appeal against Powar, but the fielder at silly point caught the batsman straying from his crease and took aim at the stumps.M Suresh wrapped up the innings in the following over after Jadhav, in sight of a half-century, attempted a slog but only managed a top edge to the wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.South had a narrow escape in the first over when Wasim Jaffer grassed a catch at slip off M Vijay. Robin Uthappa then opened up in the final over before tea, hitting consecutive boundaries off Dhawal Kulkarni, but South proceeded to lose four big wickets in the final session. Just two deliveries after the resumption, Pawar got Vijay to tickle one to Parthiv Patel behind the stumps.Powar found success early into his introduction though, as Uthappa danced down the track to the offspinner but could only york himself for a watchful 32 from 63 balls. A circumspect Rahul Dravid was the next to go, edging a flighted delivery from Pawar to Dhiraj Jhadav at gully (92 for 3).Badrinath meted out punishment to Pawar, slamming him for three sixes in a 22-run over, and looked in good nick until stumps. But a moment’s hesitation yielded another wicket shortly before the close. Badrinath pulled a short delivery from Powar to short leg, the ball deflected to short midwicket, and a moment of hesitation resulted in M Suresh being run out at the non-strikers end. Badrinath raised his half-century in the next over and really needs to settle in if South aim to get out of this jam.

No entanto, o momento é do camisa 22, peça fundamental no esquema tático do Flamengo.

Celtic: Kieran Devlin’s backroom staff opinion

Celtic reporter Kieran Devlin has had his say on the possibility of any further backroom staff additions at Parkhead.

The Lowdown: McElhone arrival

Ange Postecoglou has been after additions to the sports science department since July, and the Hoops finally added to that area in the week by bringing in Anton McElhone.

The 40-year-old, a former fitness coach at Tottenham and New England Revolution, left Morton earlier this year following a caretaker stint as manager.

McElhone’s arrival was the first backroom addition under Postecoglou, and Devlin has given his view on any more joining him.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-14/” title=”Celtic updates!!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Devlin’s comments

Devlin ran a Q&A on The Athletic ahead of Celtic’s League Cup quarter-final with Raith Rovers on Thursday.

He was asked by one fan if there would be any further backroom staff additions, and although he had no new information, he claimed a possible head of recruitment arrival would be an ‘important’ step.

“Hopefully, but I don’t have any info on that myself. Still don’t have a head of recruitment obviously, which would be important for ensuring the January signings actually fit what Postecoglou wants.”

The Verdict: Time is ticking

Celtic are also without a permanent CEO following Dominic McKay’s exit earlier this month, so the Hoops could do with bringing in more off-field members before the winter window.

A new CEO and head of recruitment through the door at Parkhead soon could help Postecoglou in regards to putting a January plan in place, but time is ticking.

Leeds: Source shares Kalvin Phillips update

Football Insider have shared an update on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips and a possible new Elland Road contract.

The Lowdown: Manchester United links

Rumours have emerged in recent days regarding Manchester United’s interest in Phillips.

The Daily Star believe Old Trafford bosses have abandoned their interest in West Ham’s Declan Rice and will target Phillips as a result.

Phillips, 25, is under contract until 2024, but it appears as if the Whites want to tie him down to a new deal over the coming months.

The Latest: Source shares new update

Football Insider shared a story on Tuesday afternoon, where Alan Hutton gave his thoughts on Phillips’ future.

Within their report however, they shared the latest from a Leeds source, who told the site that talks of a new Whites contract are at an early stage.

Interestingly, they also added that Leeds, led by Andrea Radrizzani, want a new deal completed before January 1.

The Verdict: Next few months key

It seems as if Leeds want to put to bed rumours of their star man leaving by the New Year to avoid any uncertainty during the next transfer window, so the coming months will be key.

The holding midfielder only signed a new Elland Road contract in 2019, however, he has taken his game to the next level over the past two years.

Phillips picked up England’s Player of the Year recently, so, on that basis, you’d like to think Leeds would be willing to make him their top earner ahead of Raphinha and Patrick Bamford.

Top Scottish club faces bleak future

News comes of the possible demise of one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious clubs, Perth CC, is set to wind up

Cricinfo staff14-Feb-2009While Scotland prepare to play in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, news comes of the possible demise of one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious clubs. Perth CC, which boasts Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer among former players, is set to wind up.Founded in 1826, the club was at the forefront of Scottish cricket for many years, but according to a report in the Scotsman it has not got enough players to raise even one XI and its facilities have been repeatedly vandalized.”There is every chance we will go down the tubes, secretary and captain Graham Ferguson told the newspaper. “There’s no point in kidding ourselves we can continue on that basis.”This isn’t something that has happened overnight, but we have lost 11 or 12 of our first-team players to other clubs, our facilities are sub-standard, our membership doesn’t seem to want to get involved in the day-to-day running of the place and we are simply not functioning as a club, where there is any chance of keeping things going 10, 20 years from now.””We have looked at all the alternatives, and we are very sad to be in this position, but placing the club into abeyance, prior to the 2009 season, is firmly back on the agenda, and if the response isn’t there, we will have to wind things up.”

Eberechi Eze was close to England call-up

Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze was in contention to be called up to Gareth Southgate’s standby list for the European Championship over the summer, according to Michael Bridge.

The Lowdown: Impressive debut season

Eze caught the eye of many Premier League clubs after scoring 14 goals and setting up another eight for QPR in the 2019/20 season and Palace won the fight to sign him as they paid just under £20m for him last summer.

The 23-year-old was involved in 10 goals in 34 appearances in his debut Premier League season, but it was curtained in the worst possible manner as he injured his Achilles in training with only two games remaining at the end of the campaign.

He hasn’t featured yet this season under Patrick Vieira, but he will be hoping to continue his impressive start to life in the Premier League when he fully recovers from that setback.

The Latest: England call-up was in the pipeline

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Bridge has made an astonishing claim about Eze and Southgate’s squad prior to Euro 2020 this summer, saying that the £18m-rated maestro was on the fringes of getting the call-up for the Three Lions for the tournament.

The Sky Sports journalist said: “Eze, I was told was potentially going to be on the England standby list for the Euros, the way he was playing.”

The Verdict: Still on the cards

Eze’s performances last season were often the shining light in a dreary campaign for Palace. His transition from the Championship to the Premier League seemed to be easy and his four goals and six assists were influential in Roy Hodgson keeping them up in his final year in charge.

With Wilfried Zaha and now Michael Olise in Vieira’s squad, Palace seem to be on the up with their attacking, high-pressing football and it could suit Eze perfectly. If he can come back and rediscover the goal contribution returns he produced prior to his injury, then a call-up to Southgate’s squad won’t be too far away.

With the 2022 World Cup still more than a year away, Eze has time to recover, get back into the Eagles’ XI and do all he can to be potentially called up to represent his nation on the biggest stage. It would be just reward after so cruelly being deprived of partaking in England’s Euro 2020 adventure.

In other news, a rumour linking this Premier League midfielder to Palace has one pundit puzzled. Find out more here.
