Andrew Strauss has admitted he may sit out next year’s tour of Bangladesh to ensure against burnout before another packed home season followed by the Ashes defence in Australia.It has already been widely speculated that Strauss – along with other senior players – will be excused the trip to Bangladesh, which includes three ODIs and two Tests, so that workloads can be managed. Strauss said that it was too early to make a firm decision either way, but the situation would be assessed when the team returns from South Africa in January.”We have a busy summer of cricket before the Ashes in Australia so there’s a lot of cricket ahead,” he told BBC Radio Five’s programme. “The key is to make sure the players are fresh but at the same time you don’t want to be tinkering with the side too much.”The Bangladesh tour is quite a useful one in our development in terms of playing on sub-continental wickets…I’m not going to say I am definitely on it at this stage and I’m not going to say I’m definitely not on it, we’ll just need to see where we are as a side.””I can’t guarantee anything, I don’t know what will happen in the next few months. We only select one tour at a time. The South Africa tour is a massive one and then we’ve got Bangladesh in February and March. When we select that we’ll sit down and see where we are as a side with injuries, niggles and all that stuff. O Tricolor teve total controle do jogo desde o apito inicial. Do outro lado, o Avaí deixou claro que jogaria por uma bola. O problema foi que, logo aos 13 minutos, o Flu abriu o placar. Depois de Sornoza acertar o travessão, Henrique Dourado mandou um voleio e fez 1 a 0. O Ceifador é o artilheiro do Brasileirão com 15 gols.

O time catarinense não mudou sua estratégia, mantendo a postura defensiva. Assim, o time de Abel Braga passou a administrar a posse de bola. Quando preciso, Richard e Gum foram bem para acabar com os ataques rivais. No momento, já não se escala mais o Flu ideal sem a presença deles. Cavalieri de volta também tornou a defesa mais segura.

O goleiro, depois de um primeiro tempo sem ser ameaçado, tomou um susto logo na volta do intervalo. Leandro Silva completou escanteio e balançou a rede. O juiz correu para o meio, mas o auxiliar ficou parado e, por conta de uma falta de Alemão no camisa 12, o gol foi bem anulado.

O Avaí passou a assumir mais riscos, mas os vários passes errados justificavam a condição de pior ataque do Brasileirão. Com isso, foram surgindo espaços para o Flu contra-atacar. Quem melhor aproveitou os espaços foi Marlon, presença constante na linha de fundo, mas os cruzamentos não foram tão precisos.

A grande chance veio com Marcos Junior. Frente a frente com Douglas, o camisa 35 não conseguiu driblar o goleirol. Acabou substituído logo depois. Scarpa, vaiado por parte da torcida a cada toque, seguiu chamando o jogo. O meia arriscou bastante, levando perigo nos chutes.

Após Matheus Alessandro ter um gol anulado, a tensão cresceu no Maraca. O Avaí foi para cima e a bola rondou a área de Cavalieri. O sufoco foi grande, mas o Flu resistiu e, enfim, voltou a vencer no Brasileirão.

O Fluminense volta ao Maracanã na quarta-feira. O adversário é o São Paulo em outro confronto direto contra o rebaixamento. A bola rola às 21h45. No mesmo horário, o Avaí recebe o Botafogo na Ressacada, em Florianópolis.

Somerset have signed Middlesex batsman Nick Compton on a long-term contract after he had asked to be released from his contract at Lord’s because he wanted a fresh challenge. Compton, who was his county’s top run-scorer in the 2009 season, is also the grandson of England cricket and football international Denis Compton.”I am very excited about joining Somerset, a county I have always had great respect for,” Nick told . “I would like to thank them for sharing their vision and it was that vision that made my decision an easy one. I look forward to being part of the reason we achieve our goals at Somerset next year at beyond.”Brian Rose, the director of cricket at Somerset, admitted there was a need to strengthen their batting, after former captain Justin Langer confirmed he would not be returning to the county next season.”Nick is a player we view as having the ability to bat in our top three and be with us for many years,” Rose said. “In 2006, Nick had an excellent season, scoring six hundreds in Division One of the County Championship, and he went on the England A tour so we think he can be a great asset to our batting line-up.”This summer he had a very strong season, particularly in one-day cricket, and he was also solid in the Championship. Considering just how impressive Maeda has been in Japan this season, the news that Celtic look to be extremely close to completing a deal for the centre-forward is sure to have left the Parkhead faithful buzzing.

The Verdict: Good for all parties

Costa has no future at Leeds – he scored just three times in 13 league starts last season – so the quicker a permanent exit can be sorted, the better it will be for everyone involved.

It will allow Leeds to receive a potentially healthy fee for the wide man and he can settle at a new club, as he aims to kick on in his career.

Costa has undoubted quality, with Nuno Espirito Santo once describing him as ‘immense’, but there are too many players ahead of him in the pecking order at Leeds and eight goals in 71 total appearances for the Whites is a disappointing return for an attacking player, leaving little wonder why Bielsa and co will be happy to get rid for good in 2022.
