Aston Villa have joined Leeds in the race to sign Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui ahead of the teams’ clash in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The Lowdown: Mazraoui profiled

Mazraoui is 24 years of age and is primarily a right-back who can also provide cover in central midfield.

A Morocco international, he has been on the senior books with the Dutch giants since 2018 and is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Valued at a career-high £18m by Transfermarkt, Mazraoui has made 126 appearances for Ajax and has been a regular during the current campaign.

The Latest: Villa keen on Mazraoui

Leeds were name-checked with an interest in Mazraoui just last month, and it seems as if they may now face competition from Villa.

According to Fichajes, the Premier League is ‘knocking loudly’ on Mazraoui’s door, with Villa, Everton and Leicester City linked with a move for the in-demand Moroccan.

The Verdict: Shrewd target?

Mazraoui has recently stated that there is just a 5% chance he will remain an Ajax player ahead of the 2022/23 season, and he appears to be a shrewd target for Villa.

That’s because Atletico Madrid are showing a strong interest in right-back Matty Cash ahead of the summer window and started contacts over a possible move in January.

Even if Cash remains in the Midlands, Mazraoui could still be a smart signing on a free transfer due to Steven Gerrard’s lack of options in that area. The Ajax defender has ample experience at the highest level for both club and country and can also provide cover in midfield.

Johan Lange can actually tie up a pre-contract agreement right now due to the player’s contract situation, so it could be one to keep a close eye upon in the future.

The Lowdown: Dier’s absence

Dier had been a regular during the current campaign under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, featuring in every Premier League game prior to the New Year.

However, the 28-year-old has missed seven of the last eight fixtures in all competitions with a thigh problem, making a brief return against Chelsea last month.

Conte revealed in the week that Dier’s issue isn’t serious, but despite that, he won’t be making a return against Wolves.

As shared by Gold, Conte confirmed less than 48 hours before kick-off that Dier isn’t fit.

The Italian labelled it as a ‘big loss’ and added that he hopes to see him back against Manchester City next week.

The Verdict: Bad news

Spurs haven’t kept a clean sheet with Dier out, so his continued absence is a major blow for Conte.

No other Spurs defender to have made more than one appearance has made more clearances or committed fewer fouls than Dier, averaging a better match rating than Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon, as per WhoScored.

On that basis, you would include Dier as one of the club’s best three centre-backs, however, Conte won’t be able to call upon him once again.

Lalit Modi, the suspended IPL chairman, has lashed out against N Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary, who rejected the replies filed by Modi to the three show-causes notices issued by the Indian board. Modi dismissed Srinivasan’s response as illegal, for it was, according to him, a private decision and not one taken by the board. He has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Srinivasan, demanding him to “recall” his views, inform the board that the views were his own and that the board, and not him, would decide the way forward. Modi also reiterated his demand that Srinivasan, like the BCCI president Shashank Manohar, recuse himself from the disciplinary committee that will consider the case against him.”I wish to make it absolutely clear that I do not accept the legality of any of your suggestions, findings or recommendations,” Modi said in his letter, a copy of which is available with Cricinfo. “The decision contained in the said document appears to be your private decision and is not an institutional decision of or on behalf of, the Board. Any reference, by you, to the Board, of your private decision is and will be, wholly un-constitutional, illegal and null and void ab-initio.While responding to the first show-cause, on May 15, Modi had asked the IPL governing council to remove Manohar and Srinivasan from all proceedings involving the charges filed against him, and instead constitute an independent panel to adjudicate on the matter. Um rápido passeio por estes lugares quando o Palmeiras joga, dá a dimensão precisa de um potencial que é desperdiçado pelos clubes brasileiros, do quanto eles deixam de faturar oferecendo ao torcedor nos dias de jogos algo mais do que assistir à 90 minutos de bola rolando.

Restaurantes, dos mais sofisticados aos fast foods das praças de alimentação, um stand de tiro de airsoft, o boliche – e não estamos nem falando das lojas comerciais -, apenas das opções de entretenimento, são invadidos nos dois shoppings por uma legião de gente vestida de verde e branco, invariavelmente algumas horas antes e um tempo depois de cada partida. Um público que, se tivesse o que fazer, onde comer e se divertir dentro do estádio certamente deixaria algo mais além do dinheiro do ingresso para engordar os cofres dos gestores das arenas por todo o Brasil.

O chamado dia do jogo é uma fonte de renda importante no orçamento dos grandes clubes na Europa. E o mesmo se repete nas principais ligas dos esportes americanos. Em uma coluna publicada neste LANCE!, quando da divulgação do balanço de 2016 dos clubes brasileiros – os números do ano passado, evidentemente, não estão consolidados -, o consultor Amir Somoggi mostrou que o mercado global de exploração de arenas esportivas movimenta mais de R$ 160 bilhões a cada temporada. Mas o mercado brasileiro, neste bolo, representa uma fatia irrisória, de 0,46% do total, com um faturamento de apenas R$ 735 milhões.

Tomando por base o ranking da consultoria Delloite, que anualmente faz uma radiografia da saúde financeira dos principais clubes do planeta, o Manchester United é o que mais fatura com estádio na Europa, gerando mais de R$ 480 milhões por ano. Na sequência, aparece o Arsenal com R$ 468 milhões, o Real Madrid com R$ 425 milhões e o Barcelona com R$ 415 milhões. Ou seja, apenas os dois primeiros clubes do ranking europeu movimentam juntos mais dinheiro com a exploração de seus estádios do que todos os clubes brasileiros somados. E isso após o advento da Copa, quando novas e modernas arenas se espalharam pelas principais capitais.

É óbvio que há fatores que vão muito além do futebol para explicar essa situação. As diferenças econômicas, a força das moedas e o poder aquisitivo da população são alguns dos que podem sem dúvidas serem relacionados. Mas o tamanho do abismo entre os dois lados do Oceano Atlântico passa, principalmente, por uma questão de cultura do negócio.

Há pouco mais de uma década, o Arsenal descobriu que com a modernização do campo de jogo e a aplicação de um conceito de multiuso e multisserviços na relação com os torcedores poderia multiplicar suas receitas com o Emirates Stadium mudando a rotina dos dias de jogos. Foi o que deu início a uma onda transformadora que se espalhou pelas arenas inglesas e logo tomou conta do futebol europeu. Os direitos de TV, lá como aqui, continuam a ser a principal fonte de arrecadação. Mas em alguns clubes as receitas dos dias de jogo já chegam à casa dos 20% do faturamento total.

A venda de ingressos, obviamente, é o ponto alto dessa arrecadação. Aliás, vale lembrar aqui, para ser justo, que o Palmeiras é o clube que mais fatura com estádio no Brasil desde a inauguração do Allianz Parque, graças sobretudo a um bem-sucedido programa de sócio-torcedor. Mas o sujeito que hoje passeia pelos shoppings da vizinhança antes e depois dos jogos poderia chegar mais cedo ao estádio se tivesse o que fazer. Atrações no estilo das fun fests organizadas pela Fifa durante as copas ou a Uefa nas suas competições, com jogos e ações de entretenimento que tem inclusive o benefício do ativação da marca pelos patrocinadores, a criação de uma estruturas sólida de lazer e uma oferta de alimentação variada e de qualidade poderiam, sem dúvida, fazer ainda mais diferença. Nos novos e velhos estádios pelo país.

When he cut his England colleague to the boundary in his next over the bowler responded with two bouncers, one of which flew high over the wicketkeeper for four byes.Collingwood then needed treatment after being struck on the wrist and after a back-foot punch to the cover boundary off Chapple, the Lancashire captain removed him for 12. The ball bounced steeply and moved away to take the edge on the way to second slip, where Tom Smith held a chest-high catch.In the next over another excellent ball from Anderson had Michael Di Venuto caught behind, also for 12. Kyogo Furuhashi may be out of action until after the March international break, according to The Athletic’s Celtic reporter Kieran Devlin. 

The lowdown

Furuhashi hasn’t played for the Hoops since aggravating a hamstring injury against St Johnstone on Boxing Day. They have now been without him for six Premiership matches, in addition to two Scottish Cup ties.

Discussing Celtic’s injury list last week, Ange Postecoglou admitted that the 27-year-old was ‘two to three weeks’ behind midfielder Callum McGregor (who underwent surgery on a fractured cheekbone) in his recovery.

Given that Turnbull is yet to resume training, Devlin revealed for The Athletic that ‘there is the possibility’ Furuhashi could be missing for more than a month and might not be seen in action until after the March international break.

If Celtic get past Bodo/Glimt in their Europa Conference League play-off tie this month, his spell on the sidelines could feasibly continue for another 10 games.

The verdict

This will surely be worrying reading for Celtic fans.

Although he hasn’t featured in 2022, Furuhashi remains Celtic’s top scorer with 13 goals in all competitions, two ahead of Liel Abada, so it’s not hard to see how his prolonged absence might hurt their ambitions.

Celtic are not only bidding to make it to the last 16 of the Europa Conference League, but also to regain the Premiership title from arch-rivals Rangers.

With just a point separating the two Glasgow sides, injuries could prove to be a deciding factor in the title race, so Hoops fans will surely want to see Furuhashi back in action before the end of March.
