Crystal Palace eye Joe Aribo move

It is no secret that Patrick Vieira and the Crystal Palace faithful are desperate to make Chelsea loanee, Conor Gallagher, a permanent Palace player.

Although it won’t be easy, with Chelsea quoting the Eagles a fee of £50m to commence conversations around the 22-year-old’s future.

With Gallagher’s future at Selhurst Park in doubt, fans will be glad to hear that a replacement has been identified.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider sources, Crystal Palace are said to be keeping tabs on Rangers’ 25-year-old midfielder; Joe Aribo.

The Nigeria international is reportedly receiving a lot of attention from Premier League sides, with Aston Villa and Leicester City both said to be in for him.

Palace appear to be one step ahead though, as they sent scouts to watch him in Rangers’ emphatic win over Portuguese outfit Braga in the Europa League on Thursday night.

A viable replacement

No doubt, Palace fans will be gutted if Conor Gallagher’s permanency at the club fails to come to fruition.

Though, in Aribo, they would have a player who offers a similar service for a fraction of the price.

The left-footed maestro, who has been described as “dangerous” by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, has always had end product to his game but this season he has found that next level.

In 31 appearances for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, the £14k-per-week talent has notched up a respectable 14 goal contributions in the form of eight goals and six assists,

His creative ability was on show for all to see in Thursday night’s historic win over Braga, with his two assists proving to be vital in Rangers’ progression to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

With Gallagher’s loan spell expiring in the summer, if they fail to reacquire his services, they will have a creative void left in their midfield.

With Aribo’s contract set to expire in 2023, Vieira could be looking at a £9m-rated replacement who has very similar offensive stats to the eight goal Gallagher and has experience playing in European competitions.

Crystal Palace are right to eye the signing of Aribo in what could be one of the most astute acquisitions of the summer.

Fábio Santos lamenta derrota e reprova horário do clássico

Spurs can sign Conte target for £12.5m

Tottenham Hotspur could sign one of Antonio Conte’s long-term transfer targets for as little as £12.5m this summer…

What’s the word?

According to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg, Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt “would sell” Europa League hero Filip Kostic for around €15m (£12.5m) amid interest from Italy.

The German side are yet to receive a firm offer for the 29-year-old wide man, with Conte’s former club Inter Milan said to be keen. Their interest will surely stem from the Italian’s stint at the San Siro.

Back in March 2020, Tuttosport (via Goal.com) claimed the Serbian was a key target for the 52-year-old head coach.

Meanwhile, during the winter transfer window, Spurs were mooted with interest in Kostic, as per reports from Spain, who suggested that Conte had requested sporting director Fabio Paratici to sign him.

Sign him up?

For a bargain price of just £12.5m, the Lilywhites would be foolish to not reignite their interest in the Frankfurt star as he could fit in nicely at left wing-back under the Italian boss.

During his time at Inter, Kostic was described as being the “perfect profile for Conte” and it’s easy to see why.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-levy-conte-paratici-thfc” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

Currently sat on four goals and eight assists for the current campaign, the 6-foot dynamo has now hit double figures for goal contributions in four straight Bundesliga campaigns, including a 14-assist haul in 2020/21, via WhoScored.

Across each of the last three seasons, Kostic has averaged at least 1.5 tackles per game, highlighting his effectiveness defensively as wing-backs will be asked to do a lot of work, both in their own third and in the opposition’s half too.

He has also averaged at least 2.4 key passes per outing in that time, a feat that would see him instantly top the charts in north London – clearly, he’s just as much of a creator as he is a defensive machine.

By comparison, Sergio Reguilon – the no.1 choice in the role – has managed only six assists across nearly two seasons at the club.

It’s no wonder the Serbia international has been lauded as a “mentality monster” by teammate Kevin Trapp and something of an efficient animal by Breaking The Lines analysts.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, Spurs could seal quite the bargain by signing Kostic for nearly £6m less during the off-season. Evidently, Conte is a big, big admirer and he’d look the part in a Lilywhites shirt next season, that’s for sure.

AND in other news, Conte can now seal “unbelievable” Spurs deal for “faultless” £41m ace, it’d be a big coup…

Misbah-ul-Haq appointed Test captain

Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed captain of Pakistan’s Test side a day after he was recalled to the squad. Shahid Afridi is the captain of the ODI and Twenty20 squads

Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed Pakistan’s captain for the two-Test series against South Africa in Abu Dhabi in November. He becomes the fourth man, after Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt, to lead Pakistan in Tests in 2010 alone, and the decision completes a remarkable and typically Pakistani comeback; earlier this year, after the Australia tour, he had been dropped from all formats of the game. In July, he was contemplating retirement.Instead, he will now lead a 15-man squad which includes Mohammad Sami, opener Taufeeq Umar, Danish Kaneria – each of them recalled – and a first time Test call-up for Asad Shafiq, who impressed in his debut ODI series against England recently. There are signs that the decision hasn’t pleased everyone involved with selection of the squad. When asked about the reasons behind the appointment, Mohsin Khan, chief selector, told ESPNcricinfo only that “the selection committee has nothing to do with the appointment of the captain.” He refused to comment about the squad. For now, however, the main focus will be on the 36-year-old Misbah who has, over the years, never quite managed to nail down a long-term position in any Pakistan side.Since making his Test debut in 2001, he has played only 19 Tests and the majority of those came after 2007, when he returned to the international stage after a four-year gap. Over the next year or so, Misbah enjoyed his most productive period, scoring two Test hundreds on a successful tour of India. But a run of just three half-centuries in his last 15 Test innings – despite decent returns in the limited-overs formats – resulted in his exclusion in favour of younger options.Though the decision is surprising, as one selector told ESPNcricinfo, it has been compelled on a board short of serious options. Shahid Afridi, who was retained as ODI and T20 captain, retired from Test cricket after a one-Test return as captain in England. Salman Butt, who succeeded him and impressed, is currently suspended for his alleged role in the spot-fixing scandal that rocked the summer tour. Ijaz Butt’s feud with the man who has twice walked away from the captaincy, Younis Khan, continues to rule out the latter’s involvement. Yousuf was the only other credible option within the side, but after leading Pakistan to seven international losses in Australia, has not been considered again.”Who else is there right now?” the selector said. “We’ll have to wait and see how it goes of course but Misbah has plenty of domestic experience as a captain to back him up at least.”Misbah has led Pakistan once, in an Asia Cup ODI win against India when he stood in for Shoaib Malik. He was impressive both as captain and batsman in that match, during a period in which he was Malik’s official deputy, and was considered by some in the team management as a potential captain. He has plenty of leadership experience domestically to draw on, having led his departmental side Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).The board also announced on Friday their decision to retain Afridi as the limited-overs captain of Pakistan. Though the ODI and Twenty20 squads had been announced for the series on Thursday, the board did not initially name a captain. This led to speculation that Afridi might not be retained, the board claiming that the appointments were done on a series-by-series basis. An official told ESPNcricinfo, however, that the delay came about due to the chairman’s concerns about Afridi’s role. “Afridi didn’t get a very good report on his leadership in England from the team management,” the official said. “That, and then some of his public comments recently have not impressed the board. Ultimately though it has been decided to give him another opportunity.”The series with South Africa takes in two Twenty20s, five ODIs and two Tests.Test squad: Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah ul Haq (capt), Umar Akmal. Azhar Ali, Saeed Ajmal, Danish Kaneria, Abdur Rehman, Zulqarnain Haider, Umar Gul, Tanvir Ahmed, Mohammad Sami, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir (subject to fitness).

'Kochi have not breached any agreement' – Manohar

BCCI president Shashank Manohar has told ESPNcricinfo that the board’s lawyers would give them advice on Kochi the end of the week

The lengthy saga over the inclusion of the Kochi franchise in IPL4 has stretched into its second week, with BCCI president Shashank Manohar telling ESPNcricinfo that the board’s lawyers would give them advice about the next course of action by the end of the week. The franchise’s warring factions asked for a ten day extension to sort out their ownership disputes on Wednesday.”Kochi’s reply was received by our lawyers yesterday and will advise us accordingly,” Manohar said, adding that the case against Kochi had no similarities with that of either Rajasthan Royals or King’s XI Punjab teams whose franchises had been terminated at the end of the IPL’s governing council meeting in Mumbai on October 10.”Kochi have not breached any agreement, our issues with them are different,” Manohar said. “They have huge differences between two groups of people in the franchise. They can’t seem to agree on a central head and when the season begins, when we go into auctions and player agreements, we can’t have two voices coming from one team, which is why they have been asked to sort out their issues.”Despite the anxiety of other IPL franchises over the league’s future course of action, Manohar said the governing council had not decided when to meet to take a decision on the Kochi impasse. When asked whether the number of teams that would take part next season, and whether the termination of the Kochi franchise would mean a new auction, Manohar said, “You can speculate on anything, seven teams, eight teams, we will take the decision when the matter regarding Kochi has been settled.”The board president did not seem to believe that the player auction was an issue of any urgency. “An auction can take place at any time – all that has to be ensured is that players are available and signed on seven days before the first game.”The Kochi franchise has been controversial from its very inception in March. Rendezvous Sports World, a consortium of five companies, became the tenth IPL franchise after a successful bid of US$333.33m, but almost immediately ran into trouble over the composition of its ownership, after the discovery of a few “secret partners” in the consortium. A new agreement was then signed by both the parties but fresh controversy broke when Lalit Modi, the then IPL chairman, made the ownership details public on his Twitter feed.Six months after the auction Kochi has still failed to resolve its various internal disputes, which revolve around the distribution of shares in the consortium. The investors are unhappy with the promoters, who do not want to give up the rights to lead the franchise. Despite several lengthy meetings over the past few days, the two factions remain at loggerheads.

Liverpool: New Mo Salah contract claim emerges

Liverpool are looking to achieve an unprecedented feat this year that would see them become the first English side to lift the quadruple.

Mohamed Salah is a major component for the Reds in their chase for glory and some interesting news has broken over the future of the Egyptian.

What’s the news?

Last week, an exclusive interview between FourFourTwo’s Chris Flanagan and Mo Salah was made public, with the Premier League’s top scorer offering words on the status of his contract talks with Liverpool.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Chris Flanagan shared his verdict in the latest report via ThisisAnfield.com:

“He seemed very relaxed about everything, including his future.

“I got the sense that his number one aim is absolutely to stay at the club, but that he was prepared to wait a little longer to get the best deal possible if that’s what it takes.”

Fans on edge

Salah’s future at the club has been an overshadowing worry for Liverpool fans this season, with the Egyptian proving to be a talismanic figure for Klopp’s side since his transfer from Roma back in 2017.

The now 29-year-old has bagged 13 assists in 43 appearances for Klopp’s side this term, yet again proving his value to a side who are capitalising on his performances and setting their sights on an unprecedented quadruple trophy swoop.

Salah has remained composed throughout the contract debacle and has already equalled his goal tally of last season in six games less.

The £90m-rated sensation insisted his contract issues were not about monetary gain, as he told Flannagan: “I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract, it’s not everything about the money at all.”

Asked by ThisisAnfield, Flannagan gave his verdict on the quote from Salah: “His added quote that it wasn’t all about the money was interesting, as it was unprompted – I’d asked him how he saw his future, but my question hadn’t mentioned money.”

Either way, with the clock ticking on his deal, supporters will be on the edge of their seats about whether or not he’ll pen new terms in Merseyside. This claim certainly seems to suggest that he might, however.

Rangers injury update emerges on duo

A big Rangers injury claim has emerged over two Ibrox gems as Giovanni van Bronckhorst prepares for a huge European outing.

What’s the latest?

Gers journalist Joshua Barrie has hinted that both Aaron Ramsey and Kemar Roofe could be in the squad for the Europa League clash at Ibrox tonight.

He Tweeted: “Asked Giovanni van Bronckhorst if Ramsey/Roofe will be ready for tomorrow. Says he doesn’t know yet but today will be a “big day” for both. Sounds like there is a chance they can make it.”

It had been reported by the Scottish Sun that the latter is winning the race to be fit for the game, whereas it was unclear as to whether or not the former will be in a condition to be in the matchday line-up.

Supporters will be elated

Ibrox supporters will surely be left feeling elated by this news as it suggests that they may both be in action against Leipzig tonight.

This is a gigantic game for Rangers as they have the opportunity to secure a place in a major European final. They are 1-0 down on aggregate, thanks to a stunning strike from Angelino in the first leg, and will have to overturn that deficit in Glasgow to book their spot in the showpiece clash in Seville.

The Gers beat Braga 3-1 at Ibrox in the quarter-finals to progress through to the last four and Roofe played a crucial role in that game.

He had a goal disallowed by VAR for handball by Borna Barisic, won a penalty – scored by James Tavernier – and then went on to bag the winning goal in extra time as he tapped the ball in from Joe Aribo’s cross.

It was a big performance from the centre-forward and that display illustrates why him being available for action tonight will be a huge boost for van Bronckhorst. He has shown that he can step up in Europe and will, therefore, be a key player if he is fit.

Ramsey, meanwhile, has scored two goals in three starts in the Premiership since arriving in January. He has an eye for a goal from midfield and having him as an option off the bench to come on and win the game late on if Rangers are still in it will surely delight the head coach.

Therefore, fans will be elated by the prospect of both players being in the squad tonight and will be hoping that they have both been able to overcome their respective blows.
