USA Cricket Association board member Shelton Glasgow has declared that all regional elections that have taken place in advance of October’s USACA general election are null and void

In a manoeuvre that has stirred up tension among cricket administrators across America, USA Cricket Association board member Shelton Glasgow has declared null and void all regional elections that have taken place in advance of October’s USACA general election. Glasgow, the board representative from the Atlantic Region acting as USACA’s elections compliance officer, communicated the decision to board members and constituents in an email on July 28.The email was sent out only days after the Atlantic Region held its election, the results of which have not been released. Sheldon Ellis, the outgoing regional chairman who was also serving as the returning officer for the election, tallied the results but was instructed by USACA President Gladstone Dainty not to release them.At the request of five member leagues of the region, Ellis sent the results to the transitional secretary, Sheldon Mollineau but at an emergency meeting on August 4 organized by several league representatives from the region, Mollineau said he would not release the results because of instructions received in an email from Dainty.Dainty’s email, sent to all USACA constituents, stated that Glasgow’s work has “produced a body of evidence which is clearly demonstrating that the USACA honor system of compliance has been abused by several leagues and officials.” It went on to say that “an independent accounting or law firm will be engaged with the expectation that all USACA leagues and officials will cooperate to the fullest, including a stay of all elections until this process is completed.” If this is upheld it would possibly have a major effect on not just each region but the national election, due for October 15.Glasgow’s role as the compliance officer monitoring elections across all regions is seen as a conflict of interest with his own region. The Atlantic Region was one of five regions to hold their elections ahead of the October national elections. Sources have indicated Glasgow would have lost his seat on the USACA board had the results been officially released. Only days later, his email was issued declaring all regional elections null and void with Dainty’s follow up email supporting his actions.The decision to void the elections has not gone unopposed. USACA secretary John Aaron is one of several board members questioning the authority of both Glasgow and Dainty to enact these decisions. Aaron had been appointed the USACA compliance officer initially to monitor the North West and South West elections earlier in the year, but resigned from the position after Dainty refused to acknowledge evidence that Aaron and his two committee members, Glasgow and Lisa Brulport, presented to show that three leagues were ineligible to vote. According to Aaron, Dainty said that the leagues – Greater Los Angeles Cricket Association, Orange County Cricket Association and California Cricket League – could still vote in their regional elections and therefore the national election as well on the basis that the leagues had already paid their annual dues and at the time the payment was received no one had told them they were ineligible.”Officially, I was only informed that [Glasgow] was the compliance officer from a letter that the president wrote in support of Mr. Glasgow’s actions,” Aaron told ESPNcricinfo. “The board never met and appointed him, nor did the president advise the board in writing or any other manner as far as I know that Mr. Glasgow is the compliance officer.”In Glasgow’s email, he states that USACA is “moving very meticulously towards building a pristine organization, a world class sporting body.” The basis of the email was to request the submission of data surveys from each league by August 2 to verify which leagues are still active and subsequently which ones are eligible to vote in the USACA general election.”New York had fair and square elections that were held,” said Aaron. “California had fair and square elections that were held. Nobody sought to stop those elections before. Where was this data survey sheet when those elections were being conducted in California? Why is it on the eve of the results from the Atlantic Region being released, the returning officer Mr. Sheldon Ellis is asked by the president, ‘No. Do not release those results.’ Why? One has got to ask the question. What is he afraid of?”Aaron says that the actions of Glasgow and Dainty are the latest in a recent string of abuses of power by the president, with whom Glasgow has been closely aligned politically, and that Glasgow is acting in concert with Dainty to manipulate the voting process around the country.USACA has not had an in-person board meeting since November and as a result Aaron claims that Dainty has made numerous decisions without consulting the board. The voting and compliance issue is the latest incident to divide the board with the appointments of the Cricket Holdings America LLC board members and the two interim vice presidents to the USACA board also failing to meet what Aaron considers due process.”It is so obvious that the process that’s being employed by the president of USACA is nothing short of corruption. I’m ashamed to be a member of this board and I just hope that other members of this USACA board will come out and stand on the side of fairness, protocol and process. I know there are members of this board who agree with me – Krish Prasad, Tony Gilkes and Ahmed Jeddy – who have reached out to the president to resolve these and other issues in an amicable way so that this association can move forward as a united association. Those efforts have been rebuffed by the president, rebuffed and not even considered.”Attempts to reach both Glasgow and Dainty for a response to this story were unsuccessful.

Brasil travado, Croácia melhor
A Seleção Brasileira teve muita dificuldade no primeiro tempo e foi superada pelo ótimo jogo croata. Com jogadores de altíssimo nível como os meias centrais Rakitic, do Barcelona, e Luka Modric, do Real Madrid, os europeus fizeram marcação alta sobre o Brasil e impuseram seu jogo na maioria do tempo. Apertada, a saída de bola brasileira foi muito deficiente, seja com os zagueiros, seja com a dupla central Casemiro-Fernandinho, esse último uma novidade no time. O desafogo da Seleção era pelos lados, principalmente com Willian, auxiliado por Danilo. Mas foi muito pouco. As principais chances, como uma cabeçada de Louvren, foram da Croácia. O Brasil nem assustou, limitando-se a duas finalizações ruins de Coutinho.

Da água para o vinho
​No intervalo, Tite fez a mudança esperada. Lançou Neymar no lugar de Fernandinho, recuando Philippe Coutinho para a articulação no meio de campo. A mudança foi sentida logo nos primeiros minutos, com o jogo brasileiro encaixando melhor sobre o croata. Bastante acionado, o camisa 10 não demonstrou limitação e foi perseguido com faltas, como de costume. O Brasil passou a jogar mais no campo da Croácia, que deixou de criar chances.

O gol da mudança
​Saiu aos 23 minutos do segundo tempo e foi retrato fiel da melhora com a substituição de Tite. Willian recebeu no meio caindo pela direita, e enxergou Coutinho adiantado pelo lado esquerdo, mas ainda na faixa central do campo, porém entre as linhas dos croatas. Foi a quebra de marcação. O camisa 11 então conduziu a bola até Neymar, que encaminhou a vitória com a conclusão no terço final que lhe é característica. A bola bateu no travessão e entrou. Tite e os brasileiros sorriram. Fernandinho talvez nem tanto.

Os testes: ponto para Firmino
Com o jogo mais calmo depois do gol, além da baixa de guarda da Croácia, que passou a tirar seus principais jogadores, como Modric, Tite fez as observações. Entraram Marquinhos, Filipe Luis, Fred, Firmino e Taison. Nada muito destacado, a não ser para Roberto Firmino. No Anfield que ele conhece muito bem, deixou sua marca com um gol de cobertura no último lance e colocou uma pulga atrás da orelha de Tite, sobretudo porque Gabriel Jesus teve atuação discreta. A posição de centroavante é uma das que mais tem disputa para a Copa. Qual peso terá o gol do sorridente Firmino?

O próximo passo
​O Brasil retorna aos treinos em Londres e no próximo domingo faz o último teste antes da Copa, desta vez contra a Áustria, em Viena, capital do país adversário. Nova chance para Tite fazer observações para encarar a Suíça no dia 17 em Rostov, abertura do Mundial para a Seleção. Por ora, é comemorar que Neymar voltou.

ESPNcricinfo staff14-Sep-2011Graeme Swann has said he is “delighted” at the prospect of captaining England in the two-match Twenty20 series against West Indies later this month, in the absence of Stuart Broad and Eoin Morgan.Broad, the regular Twenty20 captain who began his reign earlier this season against Sri Lanka, was ruled out of the remainder of England’s home season, as well as the five-match ODI series in India next month, after sustaining a muscle tear to his right shoulder in the fourth ODI against India at Lord’s. Morgan, Broad’s vice-captain, was earlier ruled out until January with his own shoulder problem.With Kevin Pietersen continuing his rest period, Swann was one of the few viable options within the current Twenty20 set-up. The other route would have been to give the job to Alastair Cook, the ODI captain, but that would have disrupted the top order which Andy Flower is trying to form ahead of England’s defence of their World Twenty20 title in Sri Lanka next September.”I’m obviously delighted,” Swann said. “I’d looked at the [likely] squad and thought: ‘I might have a chance.’ It’s a case of being fairly mature in the changing room, because we’ve got a few young guys who’ve not played before and need to have at least a semi-sensible role model to look up to.”Two uncapped players – Yorkshire’s Jonathan Bairstow and Hampshire’s Danny Briggs – have been included in the 14-man squad. Kevin Pietersen has insisted he still has the hunger for one-day internationals after being rested from the current series against India. That decision from the England selectors was followed by reports that Pietersen wouldn’t play again this year, but he says he hopes to be on the plane to India next month.Before then there are two Twenty20 internationals against West Indies, at The Oval, which have been added to the end of England’s season and Pietersen also has his sights set on them. He played against India, at Old Trafford, last week and is still seen as a key part of the 20-over outfit as they prepare to defend their world crown in Sri Lanka next year.”I’ve got two Twenty20s versus the West Indies later this month at The Oval and then we leave on October 3 for the one-day series in India. I’d love to play in all six games in India,” he told the . “You can never say you won’t have an injury or that you’re a dead cert for selection, but I’d love to play in every game, of course. I’m planning to play on for another four or five years, which will incorporate another couple of Ashes series.”Part of the reason behind Pietersen’s rest has been revealed as a wrist injury that needs treatment and he believes that it is England’s careful management of the players that has helped them rise to the top of the Test rankings.”There’s no doubt that England’s success is also partly down to the fact that the players are rested when they can,” he said. “International cricket can be a constant slog. I think India have got to that point now. The demands on the top players, especially if they play all three forms of international cricket, are immense. Maybe that’s why we haven’t quite got there yet in one-day cricket. But we’re working on it.”Another player who isn’t involved in all three formats for England at the moment is James Anderson, who hasn’t been part of the Twenty20 side since the trip to South Africa two winters ago. Anderson, who took his 200th ODI wicket in the abandoned match against India at Chester-le-Street on Saturday, is keen to regain his place and is considering a stint at the IPL to press his case.”My immediate priority is to play my part in winning the ODI series against India, but if I bowl well enough perhaps that will push me back into their thinking,” Anderson told the . “If not, one option might be to try to play in the Indian Premier League next spring or elsewhere, something I’m really going to have to consider.”With a maximum of only nine T20 matches for England between now and the next World Twenty20, time and games are running out for me to convince the selectors I still have something to offer,” he said. “I understood my omission from the World T20 in West Indies last year on tactical grounds and the variety offered by Ryan Sidebottom’s left-arm seam and swing, and the reasons for my absence ever since.”I can also see where they are going with this younger-looking team,” he added. “But I do feel I can transfer the skills I’ve developed in one-day and Test cricket to the T20 arena and it’s frustrating that I haven’t had the opportunity to play any domestic T20 cricket in which to try to press my case.”Anderson, 29, has not built up quite the same reputation in cricket’s shortest format as he has in Tests and ODIs but has a reasonable record. With international commitments taking precedence, he also hasn’t been helped by the fact that he’s played just three domestic Twenty20 games in the last two seasons, his solitary match this summer coming against Durham in June.”I’m sure the selectors know my feelings,” he said. “I want to play T20 cricket for England, I’m disappointed that I’m not and it’s down to me to persuade them I should be.”

‘Será um jogo difícil, o adversário também vem bem, excelentes jogadores, como meu amigo Bigode (Willian). Estamos confiantes em fazer um grande jogo’, disse Everton Ribeiro.

Os objetivos coletivos também estão sendo alcançados, apesar da queda no Estadual para o Botafogo, na semi.
