Agarkar: Kings XI were not smart enough with their batting

Half-centuries from Yuvraj Singh and Mayank Agarwal led Delhi Daredevils to a five-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab, thereby breaking their run of 11 successive defeats. Yuvraj and Agarwal put on 106 off 66 deliveries for the third wicket before departing off successive balls in the 19th over. There was time for Daredevils to stutter as Kedar Jadhav also fell but Angelo Mathews drove Axar Patel down the ground to bring up the win off the penultimate ball.Kings XI had a decent base at 104 for 1 in the 14th over after choosing to bat, but lost six wickets in their last 6.1 overs to the Daredevils spinners to end with a slightly underwhelming 165.Opener Agarwal played a calculated innings of 68 from 48. He started with a few boundaries and settled down to keep knocking singles before going after Mitchell Johnson in the 15th over when the asking-rate was approaching 11. The first ball of the over was guided between point and third man for four. Agarwal, on 42, gave a difficult chance to sweeper cover off the second delivery, but Sandeep Sharma lost the ball as he dived. The fourth was sliced to the third man boundary for four more and the fifth was pulled behind square for six.Johnson, who went for 43 from four overs, suffered at the hands of Yuvraj too. Yuvraj, who made 54 from 39, tucked a short ball fine for four to get going, and also eased Johnson down the ground for four. He was tentative and late on a few deliveries initially but grew in confidence as his innings progressed. After Agarwal attacked Johnson, Yuvraj swung three sixes in four balls from Axar Patel and Anureet Singh to shut the door on Kings XI.Although they lost only M Vijay till they went past 100, Kings XI did not quite dominate. Virender Sehwag hit a few eye-catching boundaries but he also struggled to connect on several occasions. He was especially uncomfortable against the pace and bounce of Nathan Coulter-Nile at the start.Sehwag and Wriddhiman Saha added 71 for the second wicket in 8.5 overs before the latter fell for 39 off 28 to a yorker from Amit Mishra. Saha’s fall heralded a phase where Kings XI lost four wickets in four overs. Sehwag had hung in to make 47 off 41 but holed out off the last ball of the 15th trying to hit another six off JP Duminy.The Daredevils captain had brought himself on as soon as the left-hand David Miller came in, and bowled his fellow South African on the pull in the 17th. Glenn Maxwell hit two sixes but lasted only five balls, mishitting one off Imran Tahir.The Kings XI innings ended with the departure off George Bailey and Axar off the last two balls. All those strikes meant the momentum was with Daredevils, and Agarwal and Yuvraj ensured they built on it to give them their first win since the UAE leg of IPL 2014.

وشهدت هزيمة مانشستر يونايتد أمام بايرن ميونخ وتوديعه لدوري أبطال أوروبا أمس الثلاثاء، إصابة هاري ماجواير ولوك شاو.

ويغيب بالفعل عن مانشستر يونايتد، ثنائي الهجوم ماركوس راشفورد وأنتوني مارسيال، وبحسب “ليفربول إيكو” من غير المعروف إذا كان الثنائي سيتعافى في الوقت المناسب لمواجهة ليفربول.

ويوضح التقرير أن إجمالي غيابات مانشستر يونايتد أمام ليفربول قد تصل إلى 13 لاعبًا، في ضربة قوية للمدير الفني إريك تين هاج.

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson and batsman Shaun Marsh have been granted permission by their IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab to return home after Monday’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. According to Kings XI coach Sanjay Bangar, the two players made the request so that they could travel with the Australian squad for the series in the West Indies in June.Johnson and Marsh will miss Kings XI’s last two games, against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, in Mohali on May 13 and 16.”While both the players have been of great significance to the team and contributed immensely, we respect our players’ decisions,” Kings XI said in a release. “We have a fine line up in place and are hopeful of a good performance in the upcoming matches.”Having finished runners-up the previous IPL season, Kings XI were the first team to be eliminated from the running for the playoffs this year, having won only two of their first 11 games. Though Bangar had not singled out anyone as responsible for his team’s failures, the poor performances from the overseas contingent of George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Marsh and Johnson hurt the team severely.Marsh played only four games this season, and 65 of his 81 runs came in one innings against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad, a match Kings XI won via a one-over eliminator after the match was tied.Johnson’s failures were more pronounced. He took only nine wickets in nine matches and had an economy rate of 9.37 per over, a performance that was at odds with his billing as one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

أعرب إمام عاشور لاعب الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بالنادي الأهلي، عن سعادته بعد الفوز الذي حققه فريقه أمس على الاتحاد السعودي بنتيجة 3-1، والتأهل لنصف نهائي بطولة كأس العالم للأندية.

وكان إمام عاشور قد شارك مع الأهلي في الفوز على اتحاد جدة، إذ سجل الهدف الثالث لفريقه، بالمباراة التي أقيمت على أرضية ملعب مدينة الملك عبد الله الرياضية (الجوهرة المشعة)، في ربع نهائي كأس العالم للأندية.

وقال إمام في تصريحات لصفحة الأهلي الرسمية: “أشعر بفرحة عارمة بعد خوض أول مشاركة لي في كأس العالم للأندية مع الأهلي، والخروج من المباراة بفوز ثمين على اتحاد جدة أمس وتسجيل أول هدف لي في المونديال، كما أن مشاركتي في البطولة بمثابة حلم كبير تحقق لي وأفتخر بذلك كثيرًا، اللعب في كأس العالم يختلف عن أي بطولة أخرى شاركت فيها طوال مسيرته”.

وأوضح: “الفريق منذ اليوم الأول له في السعودية وهو يركز بشدة على مباراة الاتحاد، وأن اللاعبين كان لديهم هدف واضح وهو الفوز بالمباراة والتأهل لنصف نهائي البطولة، رغم علمهم بصعوبة المواجهة أمام الفريق السعودي”.

وعن تواجد جماهير الأهلي في مدرجات ملعب الجوهرة المشعة بأعداد غفيرة لتشجيع الفريق أمام اتحاد جدة: “أشعر بقوة كبيرة بفضل هذه الجماهير التي هزت أرجاء الملعب، وأن هتافاتهم كانت حافزًا كبيرًا للاعبين خلال أحداث المباراة”.

وأكمل: “الفريق أغلق تمامًا صفحة مباراة الاتحاد، وبدأ التركيز على المواجهة المقبلة أمام فلومينينسي البرازيلي بطل أمريكا الجنوبية، وطالبت من زملائي التركيز بشدة على هذه المواجهة، أنا أثق في قدراتهم بشكل كبير، وأعي جيدًا أنهم لا يبخلون بنقطة عرق من أجل اسم الأهلي”.

واستكمل: “مارسيل كولر المدير الفني للفريق، دائمًا ما يقوم بتحفيزي ويدفعني باستمرار لتقديم أفضل ما لدي خلال المباريات، ويطالبني دائمًا بالتركيز في الملعب وألا أنشغل بأي أمور أخرى، فهو لا يفرق بين اللاعبين ويمنح الفرصة لمن يجتهد في التدريبات”.

وأردف: “أنا لا أحزن عندما أجلس على مقاعد البدلاء بل أجتهد من أجل الحصول على فرصة المشاركة في المباريات”.

وأكد: “طموحاتي كبيرة للغاية مع الأهلي، وأتمني الفوز بكل البطولات التي أشارك بها مع الفريق، وأعلم منذ اليوم الأول لي في النادي أن اللاعبين والجماهير وإلادارة هدفهم الرئيسي هو المنافسة دائمًا على كل البطولات”.

واستطرد: “أنا لم أصل لأفضل مستوياتي مع الفريق، وأسعى جاهدًا لتقديم الأفضل، وأتمني التألق بشكل أكبر خلال الفترات المقبلة من أجل إسعاد جماهير النادي الأهلي”.

وتابع: “أنسجم بشكل سريع مع اللاعبين بفضل دعمهم الكبير لي، وخاصة محمود عبد المنعم كهربا الذي يرتبط معي بعلاقة صداقة قوية، أنا وجدت حبًّا ودعمًا من جميع اللاعبين جعلني لم أشعر مطلقًا أنني غريب عنهم، وأتمنى أن أكون إضافة لهم وأن أساعدهم على التتويج بالمزيد من البطولات”.

وأتم: “في مباراة الإسماعيلي الإصابة كانت قوية، رغم أن البعض شكك في ذلك، ولكن الحمد لله ربنا يُعطي كل شخص على قدر نيته، هي أخذت مني فترة لكن مع الوقت مستوايَ سيعود”.

MS Dhoni believes India have a stable top order that could last them through the 2017 Champions Trophy and into the 2019 World Cup, though he did not mention if he considered himself among the batting core that would last the next four years.”If you look at the top four or five batsmen, it seems that if they are fit and are in decently good form they are the ones who may go into the next World Cup or the Champions Trophy,” Dhoni said.Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have accumulated 1932 runs from 41 innings – the second-best among openers in the last five years, and their average of 48.30 is the highest among the top 10. The last time Virat Kohli failed to amass 1000 runs in a calendar year was in 2010 – when he missed out by five runs. Ajinkya Rahane might need to work on rotation of strike but he remains a sturdy option in the middle order, while Suresh Raina’s utility as a limited-overs player is more than handy.Dhoni does not often bat in the top five – only nine times has he come in that early since his match-winning 91 not out in the 2011 World Cup final. The fragility of India’s lower order has played a part in that, and Dhoni singled out the importance of the No.7 to make runs, since that player ends up a certainty in the XI for his bowling.”Maybe we need to improve the bottom three. No.s 5,6 and 7 – and particularly No. 7 – because they are very crucial. The reason being the No 7 batsman for you, 90% of the time, has to bowl you 10 overs. So we are still looking.”Jadeja has done a decent job. Last one-and-a-half years, I don’t think our bottom order has got a lot of opportunity to bat, especially in the subcontinent. The top order has done a remarkable job because of which the Nos. 5,6 and 7 have not had many opportunities to bat.”So it becomes a bit difficult, the reason being, if somebody is batting at No. 7, if he goes in one game where we are 5 or 6 down and he has to score that 50-60 runs. You get an opportunity like that maybe in 10-15 games. The duration between the two games is very long. So I feel where we have to get a few good players who are competing for that No 6-7 slot, but definitely they have to bowl also. If you are playing with five bowlers, the No.7 has to bowl 10 overs.”The immediate goal, however, is winning the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Dhoni said the “best XI” would be put on the park when asked about chances of experimentation. Would there be any changes to his own routine then, considering he retired from Test cricket last year?”No, it will be quite the same because what’s important is for the team to win,” Dhoni said. “And we will see what kind of roles and responsibilities suit the individuals playing in the XI and accordingly we will decide. Being adaptive and constantly looking to improve is something that’s important at the international level.”It’s not about me. What the team demands of me and what the situation is dictates how I go in and bat. So it will still be the same. Also it depends on where I am batting. If I am batting at 5 or 6, the demands are very different compared to if I am batting at 3 or 4.”

Romans, Vikings, Normans. Imperialists from across Europe have recognised Durham’s importance and sought to make the county bend its knee to them. Over the past 125 years Yorkshire has been beyond serious question the most consistently powerful team in English domestic cricket, so perhaps it is just a little apt when the White Rose’s search for yet another outright championship – and this would be their 32nd – takes them to Durham: the old imperialists taking on the side that has won three titles of its own since 2008.There is no doubt about which team has dominated this contest. Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan’s 366-run stand on the first and second days of the game saw to that. That hegemony was maintained on the third morning when Durham were dismissed for 208, thus conceding a huge first-innings lead of 349 and prompting one frivolous rapscallion to enquire whether Yorkshire might invite them to follow-on for a second time should Durham not get to 200 in their second innings.Such impudence received a proper response from the Durham openers Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings, whose careful 116-run opening partnership in 33 overs revealed the home side’s determination to bat until deep into Wednesday afternoon in order to save the game. The prize, should Paul Collingwood’s men succeed in their objective, is that Durham would remain at the top of the Division One table, albeit with their lead reduced to five points; if Yorkshire win, however, the champions will go 11 points ahead of their current opponents with a game in hand. It would be an ominous statement of power and intent.By the close of day three the odds were that Yorkshire would return to the top of the table. Jennings, having resisted stoically for 134 minutes in making 41 was caught by Alex Lees at a position between silly point and silly mid-off – silly cover? – off the bowling of legspinner Adil Rashid, who had begun an unbroken 24-over spell from the Lumley End in mid-afternoon. Stoneman was still there, though, undefeated on 116 and the home side’s hopes of achieving a remarkable draw surely rest on the opener’s increasingly assured technique and good judgement.Three more of Stoneman’s colleagues were dismissed in the afternoon and evening sessions, most notably Collingwood himself, who was caught by Bresnan at slip for a mere 20 when attempting a drive at Rashid. Scott Borthwick offered a passable impression of his first-innings foolishness when he tried to drive an unusually wide ball from Steve Patterson but only nicked a catch to Bairstow but Michael Richardson was tougher to dislodge. Durham’s No. 5 batted 54 minutes for his 29 before a good ball from Jack Brooks caught the edge of his bat ten overs from the close.Durham were 213 for 4 when Richardson trooped off the already shadowed outfield but Gordon Muchall survived until the close and it is upon the Novocastrians Stoneman and Muchall that the home supporters will be placing their hopes on the last day.Yet the description of dismissals, two in the afternoon session, two in the evening, does little to convey the intensity of the battle between two of the best sides in England when it was properly joined after lunch on the third day. On the first truly very warm afternoon of the season a large crowd gave its full attention to the struggle as Rashid and the Yorkshire seamers probed away for weaknesses in Stoneman and Jennings’s techniques. The flag of St George fluttered atop Lumley Castle but there was stillness and little breeze in the Riverside as the openers began the enormous task of saving the game. Inside the ground the atmosphere was steamy and some spectators fidgeted a little in the heat. Yorkshire had bossed matters until now but Durham’s batsmen were at least intent on trying to save the game.There was nothing they could do about the morning’s cricket when Ryan Pringle’s career-best 63 not out and Borthwick’s 54 had been the only pleasant features of a session in which Collingwood’s side had lost its last five wickets for 39 runs inside 11 overs, Bresnan and Brooks taking two wickets apiece. There was, though, everything the batsmen could do to repair the situation and scrap for the draw even though their objective must have seemed as distant as the Karakoram.It is distant still but the challenge will not deter Muchall and Stoneman on the fourth morning. After all, the destiny of yet another County Championship may depend in large part upon the outcome of the struggle.
