Wolves striker Cutrone flopping on loan again

Even though Wolves currently have the joint-second lowest number of players in their squad with just 24 across the current crop of Premier League clubs, it’s surprising that they have a significant number of players currently out on loan deals with other teams.

One Wolves player that is currently out on loan is 23-year-old attacker Patrick Cutrone who is spending his season with Italian club FC Empoli.

Despite being rather familiar with going out on loan away from Molineux, having spent temporary spells at clubs such as Fiorentina and Valencia, Cutrone finds himself back in Serie A to show what he can do. He signed for Wolves on a permanent basis back in the 2019 summer transfer window from AC Milan for a fee of £16.2m but hasn’t exactly set the world alight.

Things have not exactly been plain sailing for the Italian so far this season either. With seven appearances across all competitions and a total of 373 minutes under his belt for Empoli, Cutrone has yet to score a goal or provide an assist for them.

Cutrone’s last start for Empoli in Serie A saw him substituted in the second half of their 3-0 defeat against Sampdoria at home after the striker failed to register a single shot at goal and lost possession on ten occasions, ultimately earning him a rather uninspiring overall match rating of 6.6/10 according to SofaScore.

Taking this into account and the fact that Wolves manager Bruno Lage urged Cutrone to stay at the Midlands club this summer and prove himself there, he won’t be happy to see that his latest loan spell has gone the way it has so far.

Since joining Wolves, Cutrone, who is currently valued at £8.1m via Transfermarkt, has made 28 appearances for the Old Gold across all competitions in which he has managed to score only three goals and provide four assists in the process.

In our view, it’s safe to say that while Cutrone’s latest loan spell away from Wolves has not got off to a great start as of yet, there’s still a significant time left in the season for him to turn his form around and make the best use of the time he has there.

However, if the player doesn’t manage to do this, then he will put his place at Wolves at risk if they don’t feel like he’s good enough to be a regular figure for them in the Premier League.

On the evidence he’s provided over the last few years, they must get rid. Lage simply has to wield the axe on his Molineux career.

Newcastle transfer update on Perez

Newcastle United have now reportedly made an offer to try and sign Carles Perez before the summer transfer window ends.

The Lowdown: Winger needed

The St. James’ Park faithful currently only have three natural wingers in their squad at the moment (Transfermarkt), and one of them is Jacob Murphy, who may be seen more as a right wing-back when the new 2021/22 Premier League season starts.

Thus, if he, Allan Saint-Maximin or Ryan Fraser were to find themselves injured for a sustained period of time, it would leave Steve Bruce pretty short in that area.

The Latest: Perez offer

As per Italian football journalist Rudy Galetti, the North East club have ‘officially stepped forward’ to sign Perez, and have made an offer to AS Roma of around €10m (£8.5m) for his signature.

There are ‘ongoing evaluations’ between both teams as the Tyneside club look to strike a deal before the window closes.

The Verdict: Sign

Given the lack of depth in wide areas, it would be a smart move for Bruce and co to go out and sign Perez, especially if they can get him for a mere £8.5m.

Once praised by Lionel Messi while he was at FC Barcelona back in 2019, the Spaniard will feel as if he has a point to prove, and at just 23 years of age, still has a lot of potential.

His three goals and three assists in 31 games in total over all competitions last term (Transfermarkt) show that he can be deadly at times in front of goal, but is perhaps lacking a little consistency.

Nonetheless, £8.5m could turn out to be a steal for a position that needs filling for the Tyneside club.

West Ham fans love Adam Hlozek rumour

A number of West Ham supporters are excited after the Hammers were linked with a January move for Sparta Prague striker Adam Hlozek.

David Moyes’ men were given a reality check in the Premier League last weekend, losing 1-0 away to Wolves and seeing their top-four hopes dented in the process.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-developments-2/” title=”West Ham developments” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It has still been a wonderful start to the season for West Ham, though, and there is no reason why they can’t secure Champions League football next season.

For that to happen, a few reinforcements would arguably help in January, allowing Moyes to keep his squad fresh as the season goes on. That is especially the case in attack, where there is no natural centre-forward alternative to the injury-prone Michail Antonio.

According to Football Insider [via West Ham Fan Zone on Twitter], the Hammers are reportedly interested in signing Sparta youngster Hlozek, with the striker scoring 32 goals in 106 appearances for the Czech club despite only turning 19 in July.

Ismael must start Molumby vs Huddersfield

West Brom have the chance to get their season back on track this weekend with an away clash against Huddersfield Town next up for the Baggies after a mixed bag of results in October and early November.

In terms of which players Baggies manager Valerien Ismael could select in his starting XI for the game on Saturday, one man who should be in the team on this occasion is Jayson Molumby.

Why Molumby must start

Since joining the Midlands club on a season-long loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion, the midfielder has only started in three of his seven Championship appearances for the Baggies.

His previous appearance for West Brom saw the 22-year-old, who is currently valued at just £900,000 according to Transfermarkt, start and complete the full 90 minutes in their 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough as he managed to show what he can offer to Ismael’s side.

On that day, Molumby had 51 touches of the ball, completed 31 out of his 34 passes, won seven of his 14 duels and completed both of his dribbles. He also proved to be a helpful defensive figure by making one tackle, two interceptions and two clearances, ultimately earning himself an overall match rating of 6.8/10 according to SofaScore.

Furthermore, Birmingham Live said that Molumby was the “industry, energy, mobility and bite that Albion desperately needed” in the game against Middlesbrough, and those traits could terrify Huddersfield if he manages to demonstrate them again on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who has previously been described as a “feisty” player by Millwall boss Gary Rowett, has racked up a passing accuracy percentage of 83.9% so far this season, the second-highest of any West Brom player below Robert Snodgrass. That highlights how adept he is at moving the ball around the pitch, which could be useful at the weekend even though Huddersfield are currently in the middle of the possession table with an average percentage of 48.7% compared to West Brom’s 52.7%, according to WhoScored.

With Molumby only on loan for the season, it would make sense for Ismael to get the most out of him while he’s at The Hawthorns. The 45-year-old should definitely consider keeping him in the team for the match against Huddersfield, especially since the midfielder showed what he’s capable of in his latest appearance for West Brom.

Journalist tips Celtic striker Albian Ajeti to be rejuvenated

The Celtic Way reporter Anthony Haggerty believes Albian Ajeti will be rejuvenated following Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as the Scottish giants’ new manager.

Ajeti joined Celtic from Premier League side West Ham United in a £5million deal last August.

The move came after the Swiss frontman failed to score in any of his 12 appearances for the Hammers.

Ajeti also struggled to find the back of the net regularly during his first season in Glasgow as he notched six goals in 30 appearances.

However, the former Basel striker has vowed to take advantage of his second opportunity to prove himself at Celtic, which has been granted by Postecoglou.

It comes after the Bhoys missed out on top transfer target Charlie Wyke, who opted to join Wigan Athletic from Sunderland rather than heading north of the border earlier this month.

Haggerty believes the 24-year-old Ajeti could prove to be like a new signing after what was a disappointing first campaign at Celtic Park.

He exclusively told Football FanCast: “I think Postecoglou is going to give Ajeti that chance so it’s up to him to grab it. He scored a couple of decent goals when he first broke in last August.

“It’s those consistency levels at a club like Celtic that you need. Strikers at Celtic are always judged on their goals return.

“This is another player we shelled a lot of money out for so they’re going to give him every chance to claim that jersey.”

CPFC: Fans react to Steve Cooper update

Plenty of Crystal Palace fans have been giving their reaction to an update on Swansea City manager Steve Cooper.

Reports recently tipped Cooper as the favourite for the Selhurst Park vacancy after Palace’s talks with Nuno Espirito Santo broke down.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, cited by Football League World, Cooper is not nailed on to replace Roy Hodgson in Croydon.

Cooper would cost Palace around £4.5m in compensation, should they move for the 41-year-old, but it appears as if they haven’t firmed up their interest as of yet.

The Welshman, who led England to Under-17 World Cup glory in 2017, has been in charge of Swansea City since July 2019.

Cooper has taken charge of 105 games in Wales, averaging 1.61 points per game and guided Swansea to the Championship playoff final last month.

As to be expected, a number of Eagles supporters reacted to the latest managerial update, with many delighted. One even described it as ‘great’.

Windass: Edouard a real coup for Crystal Palace

Former Premier League striker Dean Windass believes that Odsonne Edouard is a real coup for Crystal Palace.

Edouard completed a deadline day move to Selhurst Park from Celtic in a deal reported to be worth £14m, which could rise to £18.5m according to Sky Sports. The report also states that the 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with an option of a further 12 months.

Whilst with Celtic, Edouard scored 39 goals for his teammates.

The striker had a successful spell at Paradise as he helped the Hoops to three Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups, while he picked up the individual accolade of Player of the Year in 2019/2020.

And Windass believes that the signing of Edouard is a real coup for Crystal Palace, telling Transfer Tavern: “I’ve watched him when Josh was at Glasgow Rangers, as you say he’s a natural finisher. Listen it’s a positive move by Patrick Vieira and I’m sure once he gets up and going and he can get his first goal because he is a good player and that’s what Patrick brought him in for.”

Edouard was Crystal Palace’s seventh signing of the summer, with Marc Guehi, Michael Olise, Jacob Montes, Joachim Anderson, Conor Gallagher and Will Hughes all penning deals at Selhurst Park.

LFC fans upset by Michael Edwards news

A number of Liverpool fans are devastated after it was claimed that Michael Edwards will leave his role as the club’s sporting director at the end of the season.

The Reds have enjoyed a glorious period under Jurgen Klopp, winning both the Premier League and Champions League in the last two-and-a-bit years.

While Klopp has undoubtedly been the main reason for Liverpool’s great success, Edwards has also played a major role in his own right.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

The Reds’ transfer guru has been integral to the club making some magnificent signings, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk all coming in under his watch. He has also recouped substantial fees for bit-part players such as Jordon Ibe, Danny Ward and Dominic Solanke.

Unfortunately, it looks as though Edwards’ time at Anfield is nearing its conclusion, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein claiming on Twitter that he will depart next summer.

Liverpool fans left gutted by Edwards’ mooted departure

It is a potentially “huge loss” for Liverpool if Edwards does indeed leave next summer, in the words of one Kopite, and these Reds fans have been reacting to the news via Twitter.

Rangers tipped to swoop for Santiago Moreno

Rangers have been linked with a move for Deportivo de Cali winger Santiago Moreno recently and former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has tipped him to be a hit in Steven Gerrard’s side should he make the summer switch to Ibrox.

The Gers were linked with the Colombian youngster by The Telegraph earlier this month, with Southampton and Leeds United also touted with an interest in the 21-year-old, whose performances have earned him comparisons with Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

When speaking to Football Insider recently, Campbell suggested that it would be a “masterstroke” by Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson if they were able to sign him this summer, saying:

“It sounds like it could be a really smart signing.

“They have gone down that route before and got a lot of bang for their buck in Morelos.“Getting another guy in from Colombia could be great. He will be able to relate to Morelos and they will both speak the same language. They could really help each other off the field.“I think it would be a masterstroke signing in all honesty.“Of course he has to have quality as well. He has to be able to add to the fantastic squad Steven Gerrard already has up there. If Rangers manage to get that one over the line, I am sure he will do just that.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-rangers-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Rangers transfer rumours and news!”]Moreno appears to have plenty of potential as, despite being just 21, he has already made 50 senior appearances for Deportivo de Cali, in which he has contributed an impressive 10 goals and seven assists. The winger predominantly features on the right-hand side and could compete with Ianis Hagi in that position in Gerrard’s side next term, as the Gers are arguably low on natural right-sided options other than the Romania international.[freshpress-quiz id=“593776″]Whilst reports have suggested that he will cost at least £2.6m this summer, he is clearly highly-rated in Colombia and could add some real strength in depth at Ibrox, which Gerrard will need next season if his team are to be a success in domestic and European cup competitions as well as the Premiership. In other news… Rangers dealt huge transfer blow with “fantastic” star, Gerrard will be fuming

Aston Villa: Source drops Caleta-Car update

Aston Villa are unlikely to face competition from West Ham for Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, according to a Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Villa interest in Caleta-Car

Steven Gerrard appears to be on the hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer, with the futures of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa seemingly in doubt.

Reports over the weekend name-checked Villa with an interest in Caleta-Car after Gerrard and the Villa ‘hierarchy’ watched the 25-year-old in action.

It could prove to be a double raid on the Ligue 1 club, with midfielder Boubacar Kamara also on the Midlanders’ radar.

The Latest: West Ham update

Football Insider shared an update regarding Caleta-Car on Monday morning after being informed by a West Ham source.

They claimed that the Hammers, who were heavily linked with the Croatia international in January, are unlikely to make a move in the summer.

The Verdict: Boost for Villa

The news from the London Stadium seems to be a boost for Johan Lange and co in their pursuit to sign Caleta-Car.

West Ham could have potentially caused a problem for Villa, should they have wanted to sign the defender in the summer. They have made their mark on the European stage this season and could have more European football on offer in 2022/23, which may have appealed to Caleta-Car.

Should Villa wish to bring the Marseille defender to the Midlands, they may now have a clear run at a transfer over the coming months as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of Gerrard’s first full season in charge.
