Brunt, Sciver make it 1-1 in T20I series

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details1:13

We’re going to fight till the end – Gunn

The Ashes may have been lost but England gave themselves a chance of salvaging a Twenty20 series victory with a comprehensive defeat of Australia in the second match at Manuka Oval in Canberra, driven largely by the efforts of Nat Sciver, Katherine Brunt and Jenny Gunn.Australia’s power in the shortest format had been emphasised by Beth Mooney’s innings in their thrashing of the visitors in the first T20 at North Sydney Oval, the result that ensured they would retain the urn. But England’s busy approach with the bat was followed up by a sharp display in the field, which absorbed a swift opening by Mooney and Alyssa Healy then ushered the collapse of the rest.Brunt’s allround display was outstanding, adding 2 for 10 from four immaculate overs to an unbeaten 32 that featured a pair of sixes. But she had plenty of assistance, notably in the form of Sciver’s top order contribution, and Gunn’s persistent line and changes of pace that gave her four wickets. Sarah Taylor, too, was useful with the bat and then typically polished behind the stumps.Batting first in the Sunday afternoon fixture, England looked to be stuttering slightly when Dannelle Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont were both out inside the first seven overs while scoring at little more than six an over. However Sciver and Taylor were able to not only form a partnership but also advance the scoring rate in a manner that put pressure back on Australia’s bowlers. After the captain Heather Knight could stay in the middle only briefly, it was Brunt who dominated the closing overs, combining plenty of hustle between the wickets with the occasional meaty blow. Megan Schutt returned to claim a second wicket in the final over, finishing wiht excellent analysis of 2 for 16 to maintain her outstanding series, but England were comfortably able to pass the 150 mark.Mooney and Healy began as though they intended to make short work of the target, rattling along to 45 inside six overs before a run out turned the game. Mooney chanced a quick single to mid off, but Gunn was able to aim and throw with pinpoint accuracy to hit the stumps and send the left-hander on her way.Next over Elyse Villani was brilliantly stumped by Taylor off Brunt, and when Healy failed to clear long on the Australians were in free-fall. Ellyse Perry’s innings was ended by a drag onto the stumps, and from there it was more or less a case of mopping up operations for England’s bowlers, a task completed with two overs to spare. The final match of the series takes place at Manuka under lights on Tuesday.

Tottenham: Big Club Eye "Outstanding" Signing From Spurs

Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan are eyeing a late move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga and there has been initial contact.

Who will leave Spurs?

There are numerous candidates up for the Spurs chopping block with defender Joe Rodon now on his way to Leeds United.

Ange Postecoglou could also see the likes of Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele leave the club after Spurs confirmed Harry Winks' exit to Leicester last month (The Telegraph).

Lucas Moura departed Tottenham upon the expiry of his contract as well, and as Spurs look to free up space for more signings, supporters can certainly expect more to follow him.

Postecoglou, speaking to the press recently, admitted that certain squad members will be looking for new opportunities.

“It's fair to say our squad is too big at the moment," explained the Spurs head coach.

"There are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I'm not involved in that. I think we'll see some movement out in the coming weeks.”

Tanganga, who found game time difficult to come by under Antonio Conte last season, had been attracting serious attention in January – with as many as seven clubs showing a "huge interest" in the homegrown talent.

The 24-year-old was blocked from leaving by Conte in the winter due to a lack of Spurs squad depth, but according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, a move away for Tanganga could be back on.

The reporter, writing on his personal website, says Italian giants Inter Milan have made contact for the defender as they seek to bolster Simone Inzaghi's options.

Tottenham are now open to loaning Tanganga with an option to buy, something which has seemingly alerted Inter, as they're targeting a move.

Indeed, the Englishman is thought to be on their transfer list, and it will be interesting to see if Tanganga can finally agree a transfer elsewhere in pursuit of game time.

How good is Japhet Tanganga?

japhet-tanganga-tottenham-hotspur-transfer

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, speaking to Football Insider when Tanganga was linked with a move to AC Milan, says the player can be "outstanding" on his day – thought he has a habit of drawing silly fouls.

“I’ve watched him a few times and sometimes he can be outstanding but sometimes he can be done in behind and make silly fouls.

“Someone like him, at his age, needs to be playing regularly. You don’t want to be a squad player when you are young.

“If he can get that move to AC Milan, I’m sure he’d snap their fingers off. It would be unreal. [Fikayo] Tomori’s there. A lot more players are maybe going to try the Italian league.”

Meanwhile, Conte also singled out Tanganga for praise after a performance in late 2021.

“Do not forget that I think he (Tanganga) played a really good game as the third central defender on the left," said Conte

"I think he made a great performance and I am happy. I am happy for him because Japhet is a player that has a great sense of belonging."

Luke Ronchi retires from International cricket

Luke Ronchi, the New Zealand wicketkeeper, has announced his retirement from international cricket.Ronchi, 36, played in four ODIs and three T20Is for Australia in 2008 and 2009, but came into his own after transferring his allegiance back to his native New Zealand in 2013.He added four Tests, 85 ODIs and 32 T20Is for the Black Caps, and was an integral member of the 2015 World Cup side that captured their country’s imagination in a memorable run to the final.Ronchi averaged 23.67 in ODIs at a strike-rate of 114.50, and 18.89 in T20Is at 141.33, but was trusted for his ball-striking skills, not least in his final international campaign, the Champions Trophy in England earlier this month, when a brisk 65 from 43 balls as opener put New Zealand into a winning position against Australia, only for rain to have the final say.His finest hour with the bat was an unbeaten 170 from 99 balls in an ODI against Sri Lanka at Dunedin in 2014-15. He then followed that up with scores of 88 and 31 on his Test debut against England at Headingley, as New Zealand secured only their fifth win in 54 attempts on English soil.Ronchi will continue to be available to play for Wellington, as well as on the domestic T20 circuit around the world – with his next assignment coming in the NatWest T20 Blast for Leicestershire.”It was a dream come true,” Ronchi said of his time as a New Zealand cricketer.”I can’t think of a better time to have been involved with New Zealand cricket. From the 2015 World Cup campaign, through to the overseas tours of that time and some amazing games and series, it’s been a genuine highlight for me.”It would also be remiss of me to not acknowledge the incredible support provided by my wife Shaan and our children Brody and Indi. Cricket takes you away from home for long periods of time, and my family have been very understanding,” he said.Mike Hesson, New Zealand’s coach, described Ronchi as the ultimate team man and the epitome of a professional athlete.”We’ll remember Luke fondly for the energy he created in the field and his selfless attitude towards the team,” said Hesson.”He was always prepared to play a role for the greater good of the team; to do what was required even if that risked sacrificing his wicket.”Luke was one of the best glovemen going around and I think that’s often overlooked in a game increasingly dominated by batting and run-scoring,” added Hesson. “He was a very skilful wicketkeeper, and a very destructive batsman.”We’ll miss having him around the group and we wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Wolves Close In On "Incredible" £7.7m Signing At Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on their first defensive summer signing, as speculation regarding Nico Elvedi ramps up.

The Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back could be the one to bolster Julen Lopetegui’s backline after making sufficient sales this window.

What’s the latest on Nico Elvedi to Wolves?

As reported by Football Insider this week, the Old Gold are in advanced talks to sign the defender for a fee in the region of £7.7m.

Since then, Swiss news outlet Blick (as relayed by Sport Witness) has reported that the 26-year-old is ‘convinced of a change’, with Lopetegui being a ‘decisive’ factor behind the switch.

The report added that Elvedi’s partner had been in Wolverhampton, as the move seems to move closer to being complete.

How good is Nico Elvedi?

With 230 Bundesliga appearances under his belt, the versatile defender could be a vital asset for Lopetegui to add to his squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

A player with experience and the versatility to play anywhere along the back line, the 47-time cap Swiss international could quickly become a favourite at Molineux.

While the former Real Madrid boss has a host of defensive talent to his disposal, there are flaws to the amount of depth in central defence, particularly following the sale of Nathan Collins.

Another area that poses a potential weak spot for Wolves is the longevity of those already equipped as Molineux’s centre-backs, with Max Kilman’s future still unconfirmed and Craig Dawson being 33 years of age.

The former West Ham titan made the switch from east London to the Midlands back in January, and quickly became part of the furniture under Lopetegui, making 17 appearances in the Premier League.

While the Rochdale-born veteran has unteachable experience in playing in England, it may be a suitable time for the Old Gold to evaluate potential successors to take his throne.

nico-elvedi-wolves-target

Once lauded as having “incredible composure” by former Borussia sporting director Max Eberl, Elvedi could be the perfect mix between experience and youth to phase out Dawson’s run in partnering Kilman, should he remain at Molineux.

An assured figure on the ball, the Swiss ranked in the top 5% of centre-backs in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for his pass completion, averaging a mammoth 91.5% completion rate per 90, as per FBref.

Despite being a reliable presence in defence, Dawson fell far short of possessing a pass completion rate as dazzling as his potential successor, averaging 82.9% per 90 in the Premier League last term.

The Swiss colossus could prove to be a more polished and updated edition of the former West Brom ace, with FBref comparisons showing that Elvedi could prove to be an upgrade.

At 26, the Gladbach defender averaged 1.47 tackles and 1.11 interceptions per 90 in the Bundesliga last term, compared to the Englishman’s 0.80 tackles and 0.76 interceptions per 90 in the Premier League.

A similar narrative is evident in comparisons between their decisive presence in defence, with Elvedi averaging 4.75 clearances and 2.26 aerial wins to Dawson’s 4.22 clearances and 2.02 aerial wins per 90 last season.

In signing Elvedi, Lopetegui could equip his side sufficiently enough to phase the era of Dawson out, and to rejuvenate his back line to pair the Switzerland star and Kilman in a highlight of his side’s progression.

Journalist: Lavia "more likely" to join Arsenal than Xavi Simons

Arsenal have been 'offered' the chance to sign PSV Eindhoven star Xavi Simons this summer at the Emirates, according to journalist Paul Brown.

What's the latest transfer news involving Xavi Simons?

As per The Daily Mail, Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in trying to entice Simons to the Premier League this window following a stellar campaign for the 20-year-old in the Eredivisie.

The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has changed agency and is now under the management of English duo Darren Dein and Stuart Peters. Former PSV manager Aad de Mos thinks this move could sway Simons towards a move to the Emirates, as he stated in an interview: "His agent change indicates that he is searching [for a new club]. Maybe he's thinking about Arsenal. His new agents have a lot of contacts there."

In regards to his former club PSG, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that they have decided to activate a €6 million (£5.1 million) buyback clause present in his current £25k-a-week contract at his current employers, detailing on Twitter: "EXCL: Paris Saint-Germain have now decided/communicated that they will activate €6m buyback clause for Xavi Simons. Now it’s only up to the player. Understand buyback clause expires on July 31. Xavi has to communicate within 25 days whether he accepts PSG or not."

If Simons were to return to the Parc des Princes, PSG would be picking up one of the biggest bargains of the transfer window. Last term, the Netherlands international made 48 appearances in all competitions, registering 22 goals and 12 assists in total, as per Transfermarkt.

L'Equipe report that Arsenal may well still have hope in their pursuit of Simons as he isn't keen on pitching up at PSG this summer despite their decision to activate his buyback clause; however, it remains to be seen how the saga will play out.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Brown has indicated that Arsenal have been 'offered' the chance to bring Simons to the Emirates this summer.

Brown stated: "I know they have been offered Xavi Simons. They do have an interest there but haven't followed it up as yet. Romeo Lavia, they've clearly enquired about, so that would make him, of those names, the more likely to join.

"But as I say, I think that for Arsenal to buy another midfielder, once the Declan Rice deal is done, I think they'll be looking to move somebody out first."

Will Xavi Simons join Arsenal this summer?

Well… Lavia, who was hailed as Southampton's "shining star", has showed just how calm he can be on the ball despite only being 19 and had the head of an older player in what was his opening Premier League campaign, retaining a pass success rate of 86.7%, as per WhoScored. Also, with Mikel Arteta's philosophy of pressing and a high work rate, FBRef illustrate that Lavia got through plenty of work in the middle of the park last term, making 93 tackles and interceptions combined over the course.

Simons looks like he has his destiny in his own hands this summer and it will be a waiting game for the Gunners as they wait to see if he will accept a return to PSG to continue his development.

Of course, Arsenal will hope the Ligue 1 champions' interest falls by the wayside, as the 20-year-old is one of Europe's most exciting young talents in European football, which he showed last season by putting in some tremendous displays.

PSV attacker Xavi Simons.

As per WhoScored, Simons was immense for PSV in the Eredivisie, averaging 2.7 shots, 1.7 key passes and 2.3 completed dribbles per match for the Dutch giants.

In all competitions, the 20-year-old also managed to successfully carry out 181 shot-creating actions, with 36 of these directly leading to goals, as per FBRef.

He is no stranger to the dirty side of the game either and crunched into around 1.4 tackles per match in the Dutch top flight, according to Sofascore.

Mino Raiola, Simons' former agent, predicted his rise to prominence back in 2018, stating: "Xavi Simons is a great player, young, with potential and a big future."

Possessing a little bit of every quality needed to make it at the top, it seems like only a matter of time before Simons begins to make waves at the elite level, whether that be at Arsenal, PSG or elsewhere.

Chelsea Considering Swoop For £19m-Rated Ukraine Goalkeeper

Chelsea have placed Anatoliy Trubin on their transfer radar this summer, according to a report from reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Who is Anatoliy Trubin?

The 21-year-old currently plays in goal for Shakhtar Donetsk, where he has spent the entirety of his career to date. He was given his first ever league outing with the side back when he was just 16-years-old, and he has since gone on to establish himself as their undisputed number one. In the 2022/23 season, he managed the biggest stretch of league games with the side to date, featuring on 28 occasions as the club won his second league title.

It's led to him also being given minutes for his country on the international stage too. He was handed his Ukraine debut back in 2021 and has gone on to feature seven times for them, having also played for their youth teams.

Now, his performances appear to have caught the eye of Premier League side Chelsea. According to a report from reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mauricio Pochettino wants to try and strengthen their goalkeeping department and whilst they aren't entirely sure of a need to buy a first-choice shot-stopper, it's clear they want to at least bring in an alternative to provide competition for that spot.

One of the names on their transfer wishlist on that area is the 6 foot 6 giant Trubin, although Blues chiefs have yet to make an official bid for his signature.

What is Trubin's transfer value?

It's unclear exactly how much Trubin would cost the Blues if they did want to launch an official bid for the player. Romano doesn't mention a price tag for the goalkeeper, but Transfermarkt suggest that his value could be around the 22 million Euros mark (or about £19m). It isn't an extortionate amount of money for a young and promising player, but it is still a fairly steep price to pay for a player yet to test himself outside of Ukranian football.

He's already highly regarded despite his age though, and that could be why Chelsea are keen to do business for the player. At just 21-years-old, football talent scout Jacek Kulig has already called him a "hero" for his performances with Shakhtar Donetsk and highlighted how impressive he had been statistically in a recent fixture against Rennes.

Trubin then can already do a job at a decent level and given the right coaching, he could eventually emerge as an undisputed number one – and the Blues seem to want it to be with them too.

Sabbir, Al-Amin fined for 'serious off-field disciplinary breach'

While the BCB release didn’t specify the nature of the breach, ESPNcricinfo understands that the incidents took place during the Chittagong leg of the ongoing season

Isam: Fine amounts unprecedented

Sabbir Rahman and Al-Amin Hossain have been handed heavy fines for “serious off-field disciplinary breaches” during the Bangladesh Premier League. While the BCB release didn’t specify the nature of the breach, ESPNcricinfo understands that the incidents took place during the Chittagong leg of the ongoing season.”A Governing Council investigation has found both players guilty of serious off-field disciplinary breaches during the current tournament,” a BCB press release read. “As a consequence, Al Amin has been penalised 50% of his BPL contract fees while Shabbir has been fined 30% of his BPL contract amount.Sabbir, placed in Grade A+ in the BPL player draft, was acquired by Rajshahi Kings for Tk 40 lakh (approximately USD 50,000), while Al Amin in Grade A was retained by Barisal Bulls for Tk 25 lakh (approximately USD 31,000).”The players have been reminded of their responsibility as national cricketers and have been warned that any repeat of similar acts of indiscretion in the future will result in harsher penalty,” the statement said.

Everton Could Repeat Onana Blinder With ‘Unplayable’ £53k-p/w Gem

With Sean Dyche taking the helm at Everton in January and preserving the endangered Premier League outfit's top-flight status, there is renewed optimism that greener pastures could be found over the coming seasons.

Everton escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth, Abdoulaye Doucoure scoring a thumping strike to secure an invaluable, season-saving victory over Bournemouth on the final day of the campaign, and the requisite moves to veer away from danger must now be made.

Addressing the frontal problems is surely the first port of call for the former Burnley manager, with Neal Maupay scoring once all year since signing last summer and talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin spending yet another campaign riddled with injury issues.

And the answer could come in the form of Moussa Dembele, with Fabrizio Romano stating that the French talisman is attracting Dyche's attention this summer upon the expiry of his contract with Lyon.

The Merseyside outfit are certainly not alone in their pursuit, however, with Galatasaray and several affluent Saudi clubs all gunning for his signature – but the allure of the Premier League and the role of offensive focal point could well sway the odds in the Blues' favour.

Should Everton sign Moussa Dembele?

Despite not enjoying the most auspicious of terms with his French Ligue 1 outfit, Dembele boasts an impressive goal record throughout his career and there is no reason why he cannot rekindle his prolific edge on Merseyside.

Still only 26-years-old, the Frenchman has posted 70 goals and 19 assists from 172 appearances with Les Gones, previously hailed as "unplayable" by former Celtic teammate Leigh Griffiths.

The £53k-per-week ace only scored three goals this year, starting in the league only eight times, but plundered 21, 15, and 16-goal returns over three of his past four Ligue 1 seasons – certainly unplayable numbers – and remains a fierce forward yearning for a fresh start.

Once dubbed an "exceptional" talent by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, the former France U21 international could look to replicate the success of his compatriot Amadou Onana in joining the club from Ligue 1 and glittering with his performances.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

Signing for £33m from Lille one year ago, the 21-year-old midfielder has been "superb" – as stated by Richard Buxton – on English shores despite his club's woes.

Indeed, he averaged 2.4 tackles and 1.1 interceptions in the Premier League, as per Sofascore, impressing so much that he is now earning £55m interest from the likes of Chelsea. Such a successful transfer from France could well provide Dembele with the iron-clad assurance he needs to be a free-firing success with the Toffees.

With a license to forge a prominent attacking role in Dyche's team, Dembele could become a "scoring machine" once again, as he was once called by L'Equipe's Bertrand Latour, and emulate the success of his countryman Onana in entering the fold at Goodison Park and flourishing.

Tottenham: Spurs Make Contact For "Incredible" Defender

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with the agents of Juventus defender Gleison Bremer to sign him this summer, according to reports out of Italy.

Who could Spurs sign this summer?

Spurs have reportedly earmarked new signings for an array of key positions throughout Ange Postecoglou's squad, with a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and defensive reinforcements being eyed.

Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy, at long last, ended his pursuit for a new manager on Tuesday when Postecoglou was confirmed as Antonio Conte's replacement.

The Australian will officially commence work on July 1, and it's an appointment which marks the return of attacking football to N17 after the more pragmatic eras of Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho.

The summer transfer window is looming and Spurs must get to work on identifying transfer targets, with Leicester City star James Maddison, Man United's Harry Maguire and Southampton's James Ward-Prowse among the names already linked.

Signing a centre-back is thought to be one of their main priorities and reports have suggested that Postecoglou has already given the green-light to Tottenham bringing in new defenders.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

Maguire, Man City star Aymeric Laporte and Wolves ace Max Kilman are thought to be attracting their interest, but a report from Italy has shared that Bremer of Juve is now a target too.

According to Calciomercato, the Brazilian has admirers at Tottenham, and it is believed they have already made contact with his representatives. Spurs have apparently approached Juve for Bremer, but they aren't the only ones, with Atletico Madrid also moving for him.

Juve, for their part, won't accept "light figures" and are set to remain firm in that regard – even despite their struggles both on and off the pitch.

Who is Gleison Bremer?

The 26-year-old has been a mainstay at Juve since signing from Torino last summer, starting 30 Serie A games last season and making more clearances per 90 than any of his teammates (WhoScored).

Bremer also averaged more interceptions per 90 than any Juve player over 2022/2023 in the Italian top flight, with Calcio football expert Conor Clancy calling him "incredible" all the way back in 2021.

He told GiveMeSport:

“He's an incredible defender, and he'll obviously leave Torino this year. In Italy, he has been linked with Inter; he’s been linked with everyone. And there's a reason for that; it's because he's brilliant.”

The centre-back could be a very useful asset at Tottenham and real coup for Postecoglou, if Juve are willing to sanction a sale.
