Estamos focados jogo a jogo.

Sold under Lopetegui: Wolves hero has seen value drop by £35m since leaving

Over the past few seasons, Wolverhampton Wanderers have developed a link with Portugal. They have had several Portuguese players at the club for the past few years, and whilst that is not so much the case any more, there was a point where much of their squad hailed from there.

Perhaps the best example of this was in the 2022/23 season. The Old Gold had upwards of ten players from Portugal in their first-team squad. That included the likes of veteran midfielder Joao Moutinho, wingers Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence, and goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Pedro Neto

However, arguably the best of the bunch was Ruben Neves, who was fantastic during his time at Molineux.

Wolves' Molineux hero

Porto academy graduate Neves enjoyed a stellar time in the Midlands, in a career that spanned six seasons. He signed from the Portuguese giants in 2017, with his £15.8m move to Molineux a record signing for a Championship at the time.

Former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

In total, he played 253 games for the Old Gold, scoring 30 times and registering 13 assists in that time. He played a crucial part in their promotion in 2017/18, before helping Wolves to qualify for Europe under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 54-cap international certainly scored an impressive number of goals from defensive midfield. However, he became famous for his long-range strikes and was not shy of shooting from distance, both from open play and set-pieces.

During his time at Molineux, there were few players who were better to watch with the ball at their feet than Neves. His ability to dictate play from deep in midfield, and ping long passes all over the park were second to none, leading football talent scout Jacek Kulig to describe him as an “orchestrator”.

He was made captain of the side for his final season, with then-manager Julen Lopetegui giving him the armband as the Old Gold secured survival despite an appalling start to the campaign.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

Sadly for the Midlands club, both Neves and Lopetegui left in the summer of 2023. Neves made the move to Saudi Arabia, following in the footsteps of many high-profile players. He left for Al-Hilal, joining for a fee of £47m and became Wolves’ all-time record sale at the time.

Despite his expensive move, it has not been all plain sailing for the former Wolves skipper, and he has seen has value drop considerably from the £47m they sold him for 18 months ago.

Neves’ value in 2024

The 27-year-old has performed well in the Middle East and has been a vital player for Al-Hilal since making the move in 2023. So far, he has featured 59 times for the club, scoring seven goals and registering 13 assists.

The former Wolves midfielder has certainly had a successful time of things when it comes to winning silverware. He has lifted five trophies in an Al-Hilal shirt so far, including the domestic title in Saudi Arabia.

Despite what seems to be a successful move for the most part, Neves’ value has dropped significantly since his transfer. Now, according to Football Transfers, the midfielder is worth just £11.5m.

That is an outrageous drop off of £35.5m and a decrease of 75.5%. Even though the midfielder is not having a bad time of things in the Middle East, the move away from a high-profile European League seems to have affected his value considerably.

Overall, even though they lost one of their best players, it seems Wolves’ decision to sell Neves was a masterstroke. They managed to rake in their then-record transfer income, which they can reinvest for future investment.

Worth £59m: Everton must regret losing a star who’s rivalling Messi & Kane

Everton manager Sean Dyche will only be too aware that his side face Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in December.

That’s a run of opponents that would strike fear into any club in the Premier League – including all of the aforementioned. For the Toffees, it’s especially concerning, not least because they are 16th in the standings after 11 matches, only three points above Ipswich Town, who sit in 18th.

Not to be pessimistic, but the Toffees’ present attacking fluency simply will not do. The wintry period is bound to inflict adversity upon the Merseysiders, and the frontline must raise its level.

Everton's flagging frontline

Everton are beset with some rather uninspiring attacking metrics this season, having been one of the least effective attacking outfits in the Premier League.

Some of this struggle owes itself to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s inability to harness the prolificness that we know lies latent within his skill set, but it is more indicative of Dyche’s style as a whole.

This is hardly an anomaly either. Last term, though Everton were comfortable despite being hit with an eight-point deduction, they scored just 40 goals across 38 league fixtures, better than only bottom-finishing Sheffield United.

Everton stars Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton need something… more. Calvert-Lewin is obviously excellent on his day, provides a focal presence. Iliman Ndiaye is an electric and exciting winger, while Dwight McNeil has hit a new layer of potency this term.

But the Blues need to up the ante in the final third if they are to finally break the bonds that have shackled them to endless frustration around the relegation zone over the past several years.

Where Are They Now

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast's Where Are They Now series.

Ademola Lookman would be perfect, but the Atalanta forward hasn’t played for Everton in quite a while now.

Everton flop is now rivalling Messi & Kane

90min’s Sean Walsh has described Lookman as a “superstar”, and it’s probably an apt thing to say, in truth, for the versatile forward has been brilliant in recent years and scored a hat-trick to dismantle Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final last season, sending Xabi Alonso’s immortal team into a tail-spin.

Rewarded for his triumph by being placed 14th in the Men’s Ballon d’Or final rankings, awarded earlier this month, Lookman has certainly come a long way since his struggles to assert himself with Everton in English football.

Indeed, Lookman scored four goals across 48 outings for Everton, having joined the club from Charlton Athletic in a deal worth £11m back in 2017, aged 19.

In fairness, while Lookman didn’t manage to bring his raw qualities together at Goodison Park, he did depart for a pretty penny, with RB Leipzig signing the rising star for a £22.5m fee in 2019, having previously taken him into their German brood in 2017/18 – where he posted five goals and four assists across only 11 Bundesliga appearances.

He’s since gone from strength to strength, with his hat-trick for La Dea last season completing a haul of 17 goals and ten assists across all competitions.

The 27-year-old hasn’t exactly slowed down this year, already boasting eight goals and five assists across 14 matches for Atalanta, instrumental in helping Gian Pieri Gasperini’s second-placed side challenge for the Serie A title.

As per FBref, he ranks among the top 5% of forwards across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for goals scored, the top 1% for shot-creating actions, the top 5% for progressive passes, the top 3% for progressive carries and the top 1% for tackles per 90.

Clearly, he’s not just a goalscorer. He’s not even just a well-rounded, multi-faceted attacking outlet. Lookman is a force to be reckoned with for the Italians, operating beyond the confines of expected positional virtues, instead producing performances that encompass so many areas of the pitch.

Well, would you take a look at that. Lookman’s keenly clinical edge is seeing him put in some pretty impressive conversations, with CIES Football Observatory conveying a list – via Wyscout’s statistical system – that reveals his goal-contribution rate is up there with the best.

Namely, Lionel Messi and Harry Kane.

Omar Marmoush and Lookman

Neither forward needs an introduction, but the very fact that Lookman’s vein of performance has been sustained and directed at Atalanta, to a point that puts him alongside such names (as well as Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski) is a rueful thing for Everton, who might have helped him realise his potential on Merseyside in some alternate football reality.

This summer, top European outfits such as Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in signing the Nigerian, and Atalanta responded by demanding €70m (£59m) recompense for the loss of their trophy-winning talisman. This, obviously, dissuaded the parties in question.

Even so, he’d have fetched a pretty penny. Perhaps another suitor, in different circumstances, would have forked out a greater fee for this mercurial talent.

Ademola Lookman

It could have been so much more for Everton, who need a striker of Lookman’s quality, and could definitely do with banking on such an illustrious star.

Agents fielding approaches for Tottenham star who shone against Man City

Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from a defeat at Crystal Palace to knock Premier League champions Man City out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, and it is believed that a player who starred in the game is now attracting real attention.

Tottenham 2-1 Man City – match report

Lilywhites supporters couldn’t have asked for a better response after their damaging loss at Selhurst Park on Sunday, with a victory against one of Europe’s best teams going some way to restore faith in manager Ange Postecoglou following Spurs’ mixed start to 2024/2025.

Timo Werner opened the scoring early doors with a thunderous finish past Stefan Ortega in the City net, restoring some much-needed confidence and recording his first successful attempt since March.

Uncertainty surrounds Werner’s long-term future at Tottenham, as reports suggest Postecoglou’s side may not take up their buy option, so the Germany international’s display was a much-needed one – even if he did miss a gaping chance to double their lead.

Midfielder Pape Matar Sarr was then on hand to double Spurs’ advantage with a powerful, long-range effort past Ortega and into the bottom corner – gifting some breathing room between the home and away side.

Matheus Nunes grabbed one back for City just before half-time, and did threaten a last-gasp equaliser in the second half’s dying moments, with Yves Bissouma clearing a late effort right off the line. However, the north Londoners eventually managed to hold on and seal their place in the Carabao quarter-finals, where they will host Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“It was an important win,” said Postecoglou on Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over City.

“Obviously in the cup competitions you have to win to continue in it so that is the first thing. Look, you’re playing against an unbelievable side and they’re going to ask you all sorts of questions and they did today. I thought we defended well as we didn’t give away many clear-cut opportunities but we did have to defend and I thought we did that well.

“In our attacking moments we had some really top quality moments and we had some really good chances to finish the game off what we didn’t take. But great resilience from the boys to sort of hold out. When you play City they’re going to ask you every question there is and for the most part I thought we handled it ok.”

Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin's agents fielding approaches

One player who really impressed during the contest was Radu Dragusin, helping to keep City at bay for the entirety of the second half.

The Romania international was called “outstanding” for his display by journalist Graeme Bailey, who also shared an update on his future.

Indeed, it is believed Dragusin’s agents are fielding enquiries outside of Tottenham ahead of January, but this is only to keep their options open, as both the player and club currently have no desire for him to change scenery.

Napoli, AC Milan and Juventus are all apparently keen to bring him back to Serie A, but it is believed Postecoglou and co are eager to keep hold of him now, as his N17 career starts to steadily get off the ground after a difficult start.

Signed from Genoa in January for around £26.7 million, the 22-year-old has gone on to make 15 total appearances, but he could steadily be about to make many more.

Southampton owner Dragan Solak is now considering major double sacking

Southampton manager Russell Martin is under growing pressure, and the upcoming international break could be key in what happens to his future, according to a new report.

Russell Martin under pressure at Southampton

The Saints are still looking for their first win in the Premier League under Martin, as in their last outing they were brushed aside by AFC Bournemouth 3-1. A game that left Martin “hurt by the lack of spirit and fight shown by his team,” it came after Southampton threw away a 1-0 lead at home to Ipswich Town in the dying moments.

These are results that have put Martin under considerable pressure, so much so that it was claimed last week that the Saints were monitoring West Brom boss Carlos Corberan. The Southampton hierarchy is said to be keen on Corberan, but they face competition from Leeds United, who also hold an interest in the Spaniard.

Corberan, who has guided the Baggies to 16 points from the first eight games of the Championship season, is said to have a £2 million release clause in his contract, and his possession-based style of play has got Southampton keeping an eye on him.

However, as things stand, Martin remains in the Southampton hotseat, but that could potentially change depending on how they fare in their next league game before the international break.

Solak's opinion on Martin's future revealed

According to TBR Football, Southampton are considering the position of manager Russell Martin, and they could be ready to make a change in the upcoming international break. The report states that the club’s majority owner, Dragan Solak, has a “major ambition” for Southampton to cement themselves in the Premier League, but he has been left “reeling” from their start to the campaign.

Sporting director Rasmus Ankersen is also under pressure, and while Martin is at the most immediate risk of losing his job over the international break – assuming there is no miraculous result against Arsenal – Solak could dump both key figures in the coming weeks.

This is Martin’s first time managing in the Premier League, with his other jobs coming at MK Dons in League One and Swansea City in the Championship. The 38-year-old has managed over 200 games in England, winning 99, drawing 55, and losing 87, averaging 1.46 points per game, but that is something that continues to drop as Southampton fail to pick up the wins.

Saints are back in action this Saturday looking to put things right from Monday’s disappointing showing at Bournemouth, but it doesn’t get much easier for Martin as his side travel to the Emirates Stadium to face a Gunners side who have just swept PSG away with relative ease.

The 12 Premier League matches with the most yellow and red cards – list

The Premier League has seen numerous exhilarating fixtures since its inception in 1992.

More often than not, a game starts with 22 players on the pitch and finishes with the same number. However, we have recently seen games finishing with a significant reduction in numbers – particularly since the introduction of VAR.

But what top-flight games have received the most cards in the Premier League’s history? We have delved into the stats to find out the league’s ugliest fixtures. For this list, we consider players to have been booked twice as receiving three cards (2 yellows, 1 red).

Chelsea’s recent win over Bournemouth recently made the headlines for the wrong reasons, with referee Anthony Taylor handing out a record 14 yellow cards – a new Premier League record. Only three matches can claim to have seen as many bookings – here is the full list:

An all-London classic saw two sides quite literally come to blows back in October 1999, a time when Harry Redknapp was joined by Frank Lampard Sr in the West Ham dugout.

Four of the yellow cards were awarded to Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira and the Hammers’ Marc-Vivien Foe alone, with a total of 11 yellows brandished at Upton Park, where the Gunners failed to overcome a Paolo Di Canio brace – while outnumbering the Hammers’ cautions by 7 to 6.

Davor Suker’s 77th-minute strike offered the Gunners a glimmer of hope, but it wasn’t enough for Arsene Wenger’s side in a season when they would go on to finish second, 18 points behind Manchester United.

Just five weeks after their action-packed defeat to West Ham, Arsenal were involved in another feisty affair against their even-bigger rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

It was Spurs’ last league victory at White Hart Lane against the Gunners for 11 years, until April 2010.

The visitors picked up most of the cards, with Freddie Ljungberg seeing a straight red after taking issue with a challenge from Justin Edinburgh (he later aimed a V sign at referee David Elleray) and Martin Keown taking a walk after a second yellow in added time.

Steffen Iversen and Tim Sherwood scored two early goals for Spurs and Arsenal could only offer one of their own through Vieira.

Arsenal fans, rest assured – it wasn’t anyone’s intention to feature three successive 2-1 defeats on this list of Premier League games with the most cards!

We’re talking about the Gunners again, but this time it was Leeds United who were the more aggressive of the two: Lee Bowyer and Danny Mills both saw red after picking up their second yellow cards in the final 15 minutes of play.

Leeds picked up 7 of the 11 yellows that day, and bizarrely ended the game not only as the victors, but with over half their team coming through unscathed.

Ian Harte put David O’Leary’s side ahead after 29 minutes with a cheeky quick free kick, but Arsenal equalised through Sylvain Wiltord three minutes later.

Then, in what was Arsenal’s first home game of the 2001/02 season, Mark Viduka’s 53rd-minute strike sent the away fans into bedlam and secured all three points for Leeds.

Everton’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United at Goodison Park in September 2003 saw four second-half goals, three successfully converted penalties, a straight red and 11 yellow cards.

Newcastle had yet to register a Premier League win for the season, but took the lead after Gary Naysmith’s straight red card allowed Alan Shearer to net from 12 yards in the 58th minute.

However, the Magpies were already down to 10 men, as Laurent Robert had been shown a second yellow in the first half, and it took Everton just eight minutes to equalise through Tomasz Radzinski.

Shearer scored another penalty, but Duncan Ferguson’s spot kick salvaged a point for the hosts with three minutes to play.

Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Everton in March 2006 is not the only Merseyside derby to appear on this list. This was a particularly memorable one that featured a red card after only 18 minutes of play.

Steven Gerrard was the recipient of two quickfire yellows for kicking the ball away and a bad tackle on Kevin Kilbane from referee Phil Dowd at Anfield.

Six of Everton’s starting XI were also booked, while substitute Andy van der Meyde received a straight red card in the 73rd minute for an elbow just five minutes after coming on the pitch.

It was a Midlands derby with a difference. Not only was it played in front of no fans, but Wolves’ 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Molineux also witnessed one of the highest card counts in Premier League history.

There was little action in the opening stages of the fixture until the final 10 minutes, which saw five yellow cards and a red. There would follow an additional red card and a penalty four minutes into added time.

Mike Dean awarded Villa a penalty in the 94th minute after Nelson Semedo brought John McGinn down in the box, and Anwar El Ghazi converted.

A minute later, Joao Moutinho received his second yellow and joined Douglas Luiz, who had done the same late on, in having an early shower to leave both sides with 10 men and little time remaining on the clock.

Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool (Sep 2023)

Spurs’ 2-1 victory over Liverpool last season was one of the most controversial and dramatic games in recent years; it was memorable for numerous reasons. It quite literally had everything.

A straight red, three goals – including a 96th-minute own goal – 12 yellow cards and a goal that was incorrectly disallowed.

The referees’ body, PGMOL, officially apologised after the game for incorrectly ruling Luis Diaz’s first-half strike as offside.

Aside from the three goals and Joel Matip’s own goal, which gifted Spurs the victory, this Premier League thriller was also packed with cards.

Curtis Jones was handed a straight red, while Diogo Jota joined him in the dressing room after picking up two yellows inside the space of a minute in the second half.

A five-goal Boxing Day thriller between Southampton and Wimbledon in the 1994/95 season was packed with plenty of festive cards.

Only two points separated the two sides going into the fixture, with both teams in mid-table. Despite this, the visiting Dons were just three points above the drop, with four clubs going down that season.

However, with the teams all square at the break, it was Wimbledon who stole all three points through a Dean Holdsworth penalty in the 72nd minute.

Everton 2-3 Liverpool (Apr 2001)

Onto a fixture where you would expect to see an abundance of cards on display. It was one of the most memorable Merseyside derbies of all time in April 2001 when Gary McAllister’s incredible free-kick saw Liverpool win at Goodison Park for the first time since 1990.

Emile Heskey opened the scoring for the visitors, bagging his 21st goal of the season after just five minutes. Duncan Ferguson and Markus Babbel then exchanged goals before Robbie Fowler smacked the post with a penalty.

Everton thought they had secured a point when David Unsworth’s penalty made it 2-2, but McAllister’s stunner in the fourth minute of stoppage time snatched a win for the Reds.

To add to the drama, Igor Biscan saw red after 77 minutes with his second yellow of the game, and 10 other yellow cards were handed out from the 9th minute, right up until the 94th.

Everton received a total of nine yellow cards on their visit to St James’ Park in February 1995. Two of those led to a red for Earl Barrett, who was making his debut after a move from Aston Villa, and Barry Horne, who made the walk to the dressing room just a minute later.

Newcastle scored their goals through Ruel Fox and a Peter Beardsley penalty. The Toon would go on to finish sixth that year and Everton ended 15th, albeit with an FA Cup triumph to cap the season.

How Rangers could now end up with a "lite version" of Todd Boehly at Ibrox

Rangers could potentially end up with a "lite version" of Chelsea owner Todd Boehly at Ibrox, according to former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness.

Rangers takeover latest

On the pitch, things aren't going too swimmingly for the Gers currently, with Philippe Clement finding himself under pressure to keep his job, following his side's 3-0 defeat away to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership before the international break.

Away from the action, there is also plenty going surrounding a potential takeover, with fresh reports claiming that American investors are considering bidding for Rangers. The club is valued at around £150m, with top shareholders Dave King and Douglas Park believed to be open to the idea of selling up in the near future.

There are clear positives to a takeover happening, in terms of how it could benefit Rangers in a financial sense, further helping them close the gap on Celtic. There are also warning signs, however, with American owners proving to be hit-and-miss in the Premier League, from Liverpool bosses FSG to the more reckless Boehly, who has spent a fortune at Chelsea but is threatening to create a civil war with Clearlake Capital at Stamford Bridge currently.

Rangers could get "lite version" of Todd Boehly

Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness discussed the takeover situation at Ibrox, saying Rangers would ideally bring in a "lite version" of Boehly as their owner.

"I’ve dealt with international owners, and the thing is that you can’t generalise. There are good American owners and bad American owners. Look at Liverpool – they had Hicks & Gillett, who were a disaster, and now they’ve got Fenway Sports Group. They’re doing a decent job, so you can’t generalise. There are some smart ones.

"There are US investors who can use their ears and not have their egos at the front. If they bring people with experience in football with them then it would be great for Rangers because ultimately they will have access to huge capital. That’s the key thing. There’s no need to go mad, you’ve got to do it wisely – that’s what it’s all about. Hopefully they won’t follow Todd Boehly’s example. A lite version of him would, in many ways, be welcome at Rangers."

There is plenty to like about the idea of a less extreme version of Boehly coming in at Rangers, but the Chelsea owner should act as a warning, in terms of what could happen. They cannot afford to be in a position where they are suddenly splashing new investment all over the transfer market just for the sake of it, potentially leaving them in a worse position further down the road.

FSG-like owners are perhaps what the Gers should strive for more, even though they are divisive among Liverpool's fanbase, with the Boston Red Sox bosses known for being relatively frugal, but also developing Anfield significantly and overseeing many top signings thanks to their 'Moneyball' style analytics-based recruitment.

Rangers blundered by releasing SPFL star who's now worth more than Yilmaz

Rangers need to be in a position where they are able to spend more on signings and modernise Ibrox, but they must be sensible in making the right choice for their next owners, or risk going backwards.

Man Utd hit the jackpot on "exceptional" ace who’s worth more than Rashford

It has not been the best of starts for Manchester United this season.

The FA Cup Champions kicked off their Premier League campaign with a professional 1-0 win over Fulham at home but have since followed up that good result with back-to-back defeats. First, Erik ten Hag's side lost away to Brighton & Hove Albion before then falling to a catastrophic 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool.

There were several poor performers in the last two games, but one who stood out was Marcus Rashford, whose struggles from last year appear to have carried over to this season.

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford

Unfortunately for the Englishman, the club now have a plethora of attacking options to choose from should his form remain poor, including one exciting prospect who is now worth more than him.

Rashford's United career

Okay, so before we look at Rashford's dismal form over the last year or so, it's important to remember that during his tenure at the club, he has enjoyed periods of incredible form, including in Ten Hag's first campaign in charge.

In that season, the Englishman scored a remarkable 30 goals and provided ten assists in just 56 appearances, meaning he averaged a goal involvement once every 1.4 games for the Dutchman.

This exceptional output earned the 26-year-old his new contract, which sees him earn an eyewatering £375k-per-week when taking into account bonuses, although based on his performances since signing said deal, he might not have earned many of those.

For example, in 43 games last season, he could only muster eight goals and six assists, equating to an average of a goal involvement once every 3.07 games, and he's yet to score or assist a goal in four games this year, including the Community Shield.

So, with such a dramatic downturn in form, it's not all that surprising to see his valuation come down, with FOTmob currently pricing him at just €65m, which is about £55m, or a few million less than one of his younger teammates.

Rasmus Hojlund's valuation in 2024

Yes, the attacker in question is United's most expensive signing from last summer: Rasmus Hojlund, who, according to FOTmob, is now worth €70m, which converts to about £59m, or £4m more than Rashford's current valuation.

Now, the first thing to address is that, yes, this valuation is about £13m less than the total fee the club may have to pay for the Dane in the long run, but that fee was always too high for a 20-year-old striker and potentially gave the wrong impression to fans that he was already the finished article, which he wasn't and still isn't.

However, despite a slow start last season, the "exceptional talent", as dubbed by Harry Maguire, ended the campaign with a respectable tally of 16 goals and two assists in 43 appearances, which equates to a goal involvement every 2.38 games.

It isn't an earth-shattering return, but when you consider that he is still only 21 years old, he's had to battle with injuries, and his successful track record with the other clubs he's played for, it is encouraging.

Ultimately, it may be a few years before Hojlund can replicate the sort of season Rashford had in 22/23, but given his potential and the early signs, United have a special striker on their hands, and it makes sense to see his valuation move past the Englishman on the basis of the last year or so.

Leeds could ruthlessly ditch Bamford in swoop for "powerful" £8.5m star

Leeds United have endured a difficult start to the season on the pitch in the Championship and League Cup, and off the pitch in the summer transfer window.

Off the field, Daniel Farke has had a lot to contend with as some of his key performers from last season have either left or are about to leave.

Glen Kamara, Archie Gray, and Crysencio Summerville, who were all regular starters last season, have moved on to Rennes, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United respectively.

The German head coach is now set to lose Georginio Rutter as well, after Brighton activated a £40m release clause in the French wizard's contract.

Meanwhile, the Whites are chasing their first win of the 2024/25 campaign after two draws and one defeat in their first three matches of the season.

They lost 3-0 to Middlesbrough in the League Cup last week and that was sandwiched by draws with Portsmouth – 3-3 – and West Bromwich Albion – 0-0 – in the Championship.

The summer transfer window is still open until next Friday and this means that there is still time for Leeds to make further additions to bolster their squad.

Leeds' interest in £8.5m centre-forward

It should come as no surprise to learn that the West Yorkshire outfit are interested in adding more firepower to their squad, with Summerville and Rutter moving on from Elland Road this summer.

Journalist Marc Mechenoua recently claimed that Leeds are one of the teams eyeing up a possible swoop to sign Hammarby IF centre-forward Jusef Erabi.

The reporter stated that the Whites and fellow Championship side Norwich City, who just sold Adam Idah to Celtic, are both keen on signing the talented young striker.

It was revealed that the Swedish club are set to demand a fee of €10m (£8.5m) for the talented marksman, but it remains to be seen whether or not either of the English teams are prepared to pay that.

Mechenoua added that discussions are ongoing between the clubs and that Norwich and Leeds have both been informed of the price that they will need to pay to take him to the Championship this summer.

The Whites have also been linked with Sunderland star and former academy graduate Jack Clarke and Burnley gem Manuel Benson but Erabi is the only out-and-out centre-forward who appears to be an active target for the club.

If Leeds can strike a deal for him ahead of Norwich before the end of the summer transfer window then they could ruthlessly ditch Patrick Bamford.

Why Leeds should part ways with Patrick Bamford

The 30-year-old attacker has found himself behind Mateo Joseph, 20, in the pecking order at the start of this season and the addition of another striker would leave him as the third option in that position.

Per Capology, the former Middlesbrough star is the highest earner in the squad on £70k-per-week and that would not appear to be value for money if he is rarely contributing on the pitch, due to Joseph and Erabi possibly being ahead of him.

Despite his hefty wage packet and vast experience, at the age of 30, the former England international has not been a reliable performer on the pitch for Leeds.

Stretching back to last season, Bamford has now produced one goal and zero assists in his last ten appearances for the club in all competitions.

The left-footed marksman has not contributed with a goal or an assist in three outings so far this term, with his only start coming in the 3-0 defeat to his former club Boro.

In the 2023/24 campaign, Bamford made 33 appearances in the Championship for Farke and racked up eight goals and one assist, which means that he averaged less than one goal contribution every three matches on average.

The English centre-forward scored those eight goals from an Expected Goals tally of 9.52 and missed nine 'big chances', as he failed to make the most of his opportunities in front of goal.

Farke could now ruthlessly ditch Bamford, whether that is from the matchday squad or from the club completely if a team is willing to take him before the end of the window, by signing Erabi as his replacement.

Why Leeds should sign Jusef Erabi

The Whites should swoop to sign the Swedish youngster ahead of Norwich this month because he is a talented young player with potential, who could also make an immediate impact on the pitch.

Firstly, Erabi is a 21-year-old striker with plenty of time left ahead of him to develop and improve over the years to come, which means that Farke could work to improve his performance and increase his value in the future.

Whereas, Bamford is at the other end of his career – at 30 – and it does not appear as though he has much, if any, development left to go through.

Despite being 19/20 throughout the 2023 season, Erabi showed plenty of promise in his first season of regular first-team football in the Allsvenskan – scoring seven goals in 23 appearances and 13 starts.

As you can see in the table above, the Swedish ace carried that form over to the current campaign, with a return of five goals in nine starts in the division.

This means that the 21-year-old marksman has plundered 12 goals in 22 league starts in the Swedish top-flight since the start of last year, which is an impressive return given his age and inexperience.

Erabi, who was described as "powerful" and "clinical" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has yet to prove himself in England or in the Championship but his form for Hammarby is promising and suggests that he has the potential to be an excellent signing for Leeds.

Farke could bring him in to compete with Joseph for the starting centre-forward position and then free up the space to ruthlessly ditch Bamford, who would then be the third-choice.
